THE BIG BIDEN LIE

THE BIG BIDEN LIE

BY SCOTT JOHNSON IN 2024 ELECTIONDEMOCRATSJOE BIDENMEDIA

Matthew Hennessey is the deputy editorial features editor at the Wall Street Journal. In “Democrats Will Pay for the Biden Big Lie,” Hennessey takes up the massive cover-up of President Biden’s condition that we have lived through for some time now.

Since when? I would say since the basement campaign of 2020, but Hennessey has a more conservative and tentative estimate. He asserts that Biden’s withdrawal announcement yesterday “brings to an end the big lie Democrats have been telling about the president for at least a year and maybe longer—that he is in full control of his mental faculties and springier than an Olympic gymnast.”

I doubt that Biden’s announcement brings the big lie to an end. We shall see.

Hennessey only begins to identify the guilty parties here:

The list of those who carried Mr. Biden’s water is long. The media attacked anyone who pointed out his obvious infirmity. Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee savaged special counsel Robert Hur’s integrity for his report characterizing Mr. Biden as a “well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory.” Ms. Jean-Pierre accused Republicans of producing “cheap fake” videos of Mr. Biden looking lost and confused.

All of it was baloney. All of it was a coverup. All of it was intentional. All of it.

The list should certainly include Kamala Harris and Democrats in the Senate and the House. Hennessey expands his indictment to include “Democrats” in his conclusion:

Americans don’t mind a politician owning up to his shortcomings, or even telling the occasional little lie. This is a diverse and often disgruntled country. We tend not to put leaders on pedestals. But for all our willingness to forgive and forget, Americans don’t like being played for suckers. That’s what Mr. Biden and the Democrats did, right up to the moment they couldn’t do it anymore.

Maybe their best course of action now is to confess everything, sincerely ask for forgiveness, and commit to sin no more. Someone with the power to offer absolution has allegedly been sighted in the vicinity of Rehoboth Beach, Del. If they hurry, maybe they can catch him.

We know that’s not gonna happen. I’m not sure I even understand the final sentence. I’m grateful for Hennessey taking up the subject, but his conclusion seems to me more fanciful or facetious than serious.
