PELOSI BRINGS THE PAIN

PELOSI BRINGS THE PAIN

BY SCOTT JOHNSON IN 2024 ELECTIONJOE BIDENMEDIANANCY PELOSI

I understood from Mark Halperin’s 2WAY conversation this past Thursday that President Biden had decided to stand down from his campaign this weekend. I posted my notes on the Halperin’s comments as the conversation was in progress and posted video of the conversation in an update when it became available in “Report: Biden getting out.” Halperin reported that historian Jon Meacham is working on an exit speech.

Like Jack Benny when a robber demanded his money or his life, Biden is thinking about it. He’s mulling it over. He’s dragging his feet. Not only does he like the trappings of office and think he has paid his dues to earn it, he thinks he’s the GOAT.

We think he’s the WOAT, but we urge him to hang in there. The Democrats deserve him as their standard-bearer. They have done so much to shield and protect him from exposure. They ought to take pride in the magnitude of their accomplishment in giving us the Weekend at Biden’s presidency. Four more years!

Don’t let them push you around, Mr. President! You are the man.

Nancy Pelosi is the Democrats’ grand strategist. She is obviously orchestrating the water-torture infliction of pain on Biden hunkered down in Wilmington. A team of New York Times White House reporters portrays it as a team effort:

Sick with Covid and abandoned by allies, President Biden has been fuming at his Delaware beach house, increasingly resentful about what he sees as an orchestrated campaign to drive him out of the race and bitter toward some of those he once considered close, including his onetime running mate Barack Obama.

Mr. Biden has been around politics long enough to assume that the leaks appearing in the media in recent days are being coordinated to raise the pressure on him to step aside, according to people close to him. He considers Representative Nancy Pelosi, the former House speaker, the main instigator, but is irritated at Mr. Obama as well, seeing him as a puppet master behind the scenes.

The friction between the sitting president and leaders of his own party so close to an election is unlike anything seen in Washington in generations — especially because the Democrats now working to ease him out were some of the allies most critical to his success over the last dozen years. It was Mr. Obama who elevated Mr. Biden from a presidential also-ran to the vice presidency, setting him up to win the White House in 2020, and it was Ms. Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer, the Senate Democratic leader, who pushed through his landmark legislative achievements.

But several people close to Mr. Biden, who insisted on anonymity to discuss internal matters, described an under-the-weather president coughing and hacking more than a hundred miles from the corridors of power as his presidency meets its most perilous moment.

He has watched with rising exasperation as a succession of news stories appeared, one after the other, reporting that Mr. Schumer, Ms. Pelosi, Mr. Obama and Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York, the House Democratic leader, all had warned of a devastating defeat for the party in November.

And he certainly noticed that Mr. Obama has not done anything to help him in recent days even as his own former aides publicly have led the way in calling on Mr. Biden to withdraw in what was interpreted, rightly or wrongly, as a message from the former president’s camp. The unseen but clearly felt presence of Mr. Obama in particular has brought a Shakespearean quality to the drama now playing out, given their eight-year partnership.

The Times adds: “Yet Mr. Biden bristles at pressure and those pushing him risk getting his back up and prompting him to remain after all. Two people familiar with his thinking said he had not changed his mind as of Friday afternoon.” (NBC News has more here.)

We’re with the Washington Free Beacon: “Crazy Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic establishment are trying to push you aside because they’re afraid of what you might accomplish in a second term. They don’t want you to be remembered as a much more successful president than Barack Obama, your ungrateful former boss.”

The Times also reports on Pelosi’s planning for the immediate future: “Pelosi Told Colleagues She Would Favor ‘Open’ Nomination Process if Biden Drops Out.” Kamala is to be crowned, but the process will be “open.”

Politico separately reports on the hand of Pelosi in “Pelosi voiced support for an open nomination process if Biden drops out.” Subhead: “Some California House Democrats don’t want the process to replace the president on the ticket to seem like a Kamala Harris coronation.” As I was saying. Halperin himself explored “The Biden/Pelosi treachery” in last night’s 2WAY.

The Democrats all supported Biden as long as they thought he could lead them to victory. Along with their mainstream media adjunct, they all covered for him. They denounced Robert Hur as an enemy of humanity for describing the husk of a man he found when he interviewed Biden. He was sharp as a tack and all the rest. MSNBC star Joe Scarborough spoke for all of them only a few months aga:

“I undersold him when I said he was cogent,” Scarborough said. “He’s far beyond cogent. In fact, he’s better than he’s ever been intellectually, analytically. Because he’s been around for 50 years.”

“Start your tape right now because I’m about to tell you the truth,” Scarborough continued. “And **** you if you can’t handle the truth. This version of Biden, intellectually, analytically, is the best Biden ever. Not a close second. And I’ve known him for years. … If it weren’t the truth, I wouldn’t say it.”

Chisel those words on Mount Rushmore.

Don’t go, Joe. You earned it. You suffered for it. Don’t be a quitter!
