AXIS OF WEASELS

AXIS OF WEASELS

BY LLOYD BILLINGSLEY IN CANADA

Justin Trudeau is polling worse than Joe Biden and Steve thinks it might be due to a drop in real per capita GNP.  Maybe Justin could revive his blackface act, which the ladies found amusing back in 2001. That should have killed off Justin’s political career, but he was saved by the family connection. According to Canadian David Frum, who composed George W. Bush’s “Axis of Evil” speech, Pierre Trudeau was a major disaster:

Pierre Trudeau took office at a moment when commodity prices were rising worldwide. Then as now, rising commodity prices buoyed the Canadian economy. Good policymakers recognize that commodity prices fall as well as rise. A wise government does not make permanent commitments based on temporary revenues. Yet between 1969 and 1979 – through two majority governments and one minority – Trudeau tripled federal spending. Nemesis followed hubris. Commodity prices dropped. Predictably, Canada tumbled into recession and the worst federal budget deficits in peacetime history.

Trudeau believed in a state-led economy, and the longer he lasted in office, the more statist he became. . . There was nothing small-scale or parochial about him. As a political wrecker, he was truly world class.

It’s telling I think that Trudeau came to the edge of endorsing the communist coup against Solidarity in Poland in December 1981. Hours after the coup, Pierre Trudeau said: “If martial law is a way to avoid civil war and Soviet intervention, then I cannot say it is all bad.” He added “Hopefully the military regime will be able to keep Solidarity from excessive demands.”

And so on, with good reason. Pierre Trudeau had been a fan of Communist regimes since the Stalin Era. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had a file on Trudeau but in 1989 the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) conveniently destroyed the materials instead of turning them over to the national archives. The destruction reminded historian Steve Hewitt of “an authoritarian state and not a proper democracy that values its history.” For Justin’s authoritarian side, check out his crackdown on the truckers’ protest. Like Pierre, Justin Trudeau is an admirer of Communist dictators, an economic crackpot, and a world-class wrecker. That’s why he’s down in the polls.
