Greta Thunberg Wellness Check — Climate Commies Are Flailing All Around Their Delusions
"Greta Thunberg Wellness Check" was a snarky comment I used for a Morning Briefing link, and I believe that's the first time that one of those has ever made it into a headline. This is history!
If, like most sane people, you've grown weary of the climate commies' hysteria, you'll be happy to know that the poor dears are struggling a bit these days.
The bad news about electric vehicles is all over the place. Despite the best efforts of the last two Democratic presidents to create an artificial market by paying people to buy them, it's just not happening. I don't doubt that they will one day be ubiquitous and far more functional, but that day is a long way off, no matter how much taxpayer money that Big Green convinces lunatic Dems to throw at it.
That dovetails with the story that prompted this. The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference — aka COP28 — recently came to a close. As Rick explained in a recent post, the elders of the Climate Church all had their sustainable hemp panties in a wad over the conference's inability to craft a New World Order plan to, I kid you not, phase out fossil fuels. Hardest hit was Inventor of the Internet Al Gore:
“The world desperately needs to phase out fossil fuels as quickly as possible, but this obsequious draft reads as if OPEC dictated it word for word,” Gore said. “It is even worse than many had feared.”
Foot-stomping by adults in 2023 over not having a plan to phase out fossil fuels is akin to a kid being mad because Santa didn't bring him a unicorn. These people truly believe that with enough shaming and government interference, they can "Poof!" their delusions into existence. It's like watching a social experiment that has transferred clinically insane people from an asylum to positions of power all over the world.
I've actually attended one of these UN Climate Change conferences. I was paid to pretty much live tweet dripping sarcasm from the 2010 conference in Cancún. Oh, and do breakfast shots of tequila on the beach with Andrew Breitbart.
Being me has some ridiculous perks.
Anyway, the gathering was the most unhinged freak show I've ever personally witnessed, and I'm a stand-up comic from the 1980s. Seriously, I kept wondering if I might have been on the most elaborate episode of "Punk'd" ever.
There was a huge expo there that was a well-funded cry for help. I saw homes of the "future" that included dirt floors, washboards for laundry, and an in-home toilet that was nothing more than a camping latrine. The Big Green geniuses who are going to have everyone driving electric cars also want us to live like poor people from 1879. Of course, we will have to do that when the government forces us all to buy the EVs that we're already propping up with our tax dollars.
Everything about these people is unwell.
Al Gore and his wealthy climate hysteria bedfellows knew when they were starting out that they were lying and scamming everyone. The problem with rabid leftist ideologues is that they repeat their lies so often that they eventually believe them. Al Gore's panic isn't feigned; he's actually been overwhelmed by his own BS.
That's how they get to where they believe in nonsensical things like a near future path to phasing out fossil fuels that can be achieved by barking "Carbon Neutral!" like trained seals. In my book "Don't Let the Hippies Shower," I wrote that, "Progressivism is the toddler mindset manifested in adulthood." Gore and his ilk think that things should happen solely because they want them to happen.
As with the toddlers, reality intervenes whenever it can to disabuse them of that notion.
