A key pro-Trump super PAC is hitting the airwaves in three industrial battleground states with new ads that label Joe Biden as a China sympathizer at a time when America is concerned with the communist nation’s lying about the coronavirus and stealing U.S. jobs.
America First Action said that, starting tomorrow, it will spend $10 million in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania on ads hitting the presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential nominee as “Beijing Biden.”
In each, it will use different lines Biden has said cheering China in the past.
In the ad in Michigan, titled “40 years,” Biden says, “I believed in 1979 … and I believe now that a rising China is a positive development.”
In the Wisconsin ad, titled “Stop China. Stop Joe Biden,” the former vice president says, “We’re not trying to slow down Chinese growth.”
And in the Pennsylvania ad, titled “Joe Biden: China’s not bad folks,” he is shown saying, “They’re not bad folks, folks.”
All three states are considered must-wins by the Trump campaign. He won each in 2016 in a surprise that vaulted him into the White House. They are also states the Biden campaign believes it can win back.
The ads also come as Biden has stepped up criticism of President Trump’s handling of the coronavirus fight, during which the president has blamed China for failing to tell the world just how bad it was.
This week, he said, "Unfortunately, Donald Trump and his administration have failed to show almost any moral leadership when it comes to this issue." In a statement, he added, "The casual racism and regular xenophobia that we have seen from Trump and this administration is a national scourge."
The influential political action committee also on Friday is launching a related website, BeijingBiden.com. A spokesperson said of the site, “The website will be updated with all of the latest op-eds, news articles, and content that relate to Joe Biden and the establishment’s cozy relationship with China, as well as the misdeeds, cover-up, corruption, and fraud that has been perpetrated by China during this international pandemic and the international organizations who cover for them, including the WHO.”
