The War Against O'Keefe, Breitbart, et al
The Left's attempt to destroy James O'Keefe, and ultimately Andrew Breitbart, not to mention Sarah Palin, are ultimately good news for the Right. Those individuals, along with Fox News, Talk Radio, the recent growth in Right-side blogs and today's political winds tell us the Left has good reason to fear. But do not underestimate their resolve.

As a classically-liberal to Libertarian college student and student editor more years ago than I want to count, with the agreement of the student editorial board, I decided to publish a controversial letter to the editor from a Far Right source.
The student body didn't think much of it but the predominantly liberal faculty certainly did. The remainder of that year was marked with protests, threats of lawsuits, intimidation of all sorts, including having anonymous faculty members call out Nazi and worse from behind half-closed office doors when I had to navigate certain buildings.
While the fighting first began in the paper's Op Ed pages, it soon gravitated to the classroom, led to a faculty-driven effort to pit student groups against one another - and that and more became about destroying me and my reputation, leaving the original issue far behind.
If it can be said that anyone won in the confrontation, I guess I did. But only because I remained, kept fighting, never blinked and a key faculty member resigned from a central advisory position at the beginning of the following year.
What it also did was begin my shift from center-left to center-right, as my libertarian streak learned firsthand that there was far more to fear from the Left, than the Right in America today when it comes to intolerance and the inability to even allow dissent. They are down for the cause and will drag down anything, any law, and any one with them if they can in their pursuits.
The good news is, they have so many prominent individuals, institutions and even Tea Party types to fight today, clearly the Right is finally serious and on the march. Just don't kid yourself that victory is at hand. This will be a long, sometimes ugly and always challenging battle. But the winner will have much to say about the future direction of America.
And don't let the names, personalities, or various ideologies distract you from what finally is the cause here - freedom. And not just for some but for all. As a concept well worth fighting for, don't get distracted, tired, or bored with the effort. It will take everything we have, including smarts and restraint, to win. What we should not do is become that which we fight against. There is no pride in becoming as ugly, unrestrained, dishonest and intolerant as is today's Left.
