With Nancy Pelosi sending off the articles of impeachment to the Senate today, she couldn't help herself but follow Adam Schiff's example and fabricating a key line in the Trump-Zelensky phone call transcript.
"Do me a favor," Pelosi said was part of Trump's request to the Ukrainian president. "'Do me a favor?'" Pelosi mocked, "'Do you paint houses, too?' What is this, 'Do me a favor?'"

There's just one huge problem. Trump never said, "Do me a favor."
“I would like you to do us a favor though because our country has been through a lot and Ukraine knows a lot about it,” is what Trump actually said. And make no mistake about it, that word-swapping makes a huge difference. Trump was not asking Zelensky for a personal favor, as Pelosi was trying to suggest with her fabricated quote. He was asking for Ukraine's assistance with a corruption investigation being conducted by the United States.
In fact, CNN has even called out other Democrats for the exact same misquote committed by Pelosi.
Adam Schiff similarly fabricated quotes from the transcript on the House floor in order to make the call sound more damning than it was — because it wasn't really damning at all. "It was a perfect call," Trump has said. While some Republicans have argued it wasn't perfect, all agree there was nothing impeachable about it. When Schiff was confronted over his fictional retelling of the Trump-Zelensky call, he was forced to "clarify" his actions, and he claimed, absurdly, that his version of the call was simply a "parody."
If the call transcript was so damning to President Trump, why have Democrats repeatedly lied about what Trump said in the call?
