That One Time I Spent 24 Hours Making John Mellencamp's Gun-Grabbing Supporters Cry and Look STUPID
I had no idea how ignorant John Mellencamp is about issues and politics in general because to be fair, I have never liked his music so I don't and never have paid attention to him. Even as a young GenX kid, I would turn the station when his music came on the radio. Yes, young people reading this, our radio was limited to where we lived and the stations available in the area - we didn't have fancy-schmancy streaming (GET OFF MY LAWN). I mean, it was probably safe to assume he's a raging progressive doorknob since he's an aging rock star but woof ...
For example, Mellencamp released a statement right after the KC shooting, babbling about gun control because more children had been killed. Here's his melodramatic, black-and-white pic statement:
From the rest of his post:
If we as a country want to find the collective will within ourselves to change our gun laws, let’s stop playing silly political games. Show the carnage on the news. Show the American people the dead children and others who have been struck down. Show us what guns and bullets can do to the human body. The news media need to be brave enough to let Americans see what slaughtered children look like. Otherwise, I fear that too many perceive gun violence as an abstract; a story that’s repeated nearly every day to numbing effect. When I was a teenager, there was a war in Vietnam. In the beginning, no one paid much attention to this problem in a foreign land until the media shouldered the responsibility and showed America how our sons were being slaughtered. Once those images were shown on TV, there was overwhelming demand for that war to be ended immediately.I say this as a father and a human being, with deep empathy for the parents whose children have had their lives ended so suddenly and so senselessly: Show America the carnage. I am not being callous, and I know it will be painful to see. But, sad to say, I think it’s the only way to shock America out of its stupor. #GunControlNow #GunViolence #Empathy #gunlaws #change
So deep. SO MEANINGFUL. So full of it.
See, we all know no children were killed by gun violence in the gang-related shooting in Kansas City. Hey, if he wants to play the 'WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN' card he should at least bother to read up on what has happened. If he really cared he'd speak out about gang violence and the poor Hispanic woman who lost her life because young black men shot her. But oh no, he sought to exploit dead children because that is what gun grabbers do. They don't concern themselves with deaths if they are not convenient to their narrative.
And Mellencamp is no different.
Well, if you know me at all (and lucky you, VIP readers, you know me) I thought it best to correct Mellencamp ... hey, you'd think the guy would want to know if he was blatantly wrong in exploiting more dead children, right? So I simply corrected him (I wasn't even mean):
See?
That's even NICE for me.
That didn't keep his gun-grabbing supporters from losing their freaking minds and screeching at me for 24 hours. It was cute how they tried to ratio me - it didn't happen. It was also adorable watching them try and dogpile me - that didn't work out so hot for them. First, they tried to imply I didn't care about children if I corrected him by saying they hadn't died. When that didn't work (I just kept pointing out how weird it was that they wanted more dead children), then they said he OBVIOUSLY meant all gun violence and WHY DON'T YOU CARE ABOUT DEAD KIDS, FOO? YOU'RE SOOO UNFEELING AND MEAN! MAGA MAGA MAGA.
To say they weren't sending their best is an understatement. But it was good practice batting around the stupid and making a mockery of them for all to see - it had been a while since I'd last had a group of mouth-breathers try and gang up on me.
It never ends well for them.
Good times for me though. :)
I feel like I need a t-shirt that says, 'I Made John Mellencamp's Whiny Followers Cry for 24 Hours And All I Got Was This Lousy T-shirt.
