Name the Spy: The FBI Had a Source with Access to the Trump Campaign [video]

Representatives Devin Nunes (R-Calif) and Trey Gowdy (R-SC) press on to gain access to relevant documents in the Russia collusion investigation, but the Department of Justice Deputy Attorney General, Rod Rosenstein, refuses to budge. Rosenstein has had a powerful position at the DOJ ever since Jeff Sessions, the actual US Attorney General (in name only apparently), stepped aside from the Russia investigation out of an abundance of idiocy. The continued stonewalling of congressional investigators is baffling, leaving the only excuse to be CYA.

The latest revelation that has surfaced is that it appears the FBI had an actual human source reporting on the Trump Campaign. This is separate from the Steele dossier written by a British intelligence agent who used his many times removed Russian sources to craft a lascivious story about Trump having a time in Russia. This is also separate from the FBI wire tapping – ok, surveillance – of Trump Tower, that it achieved through the legal means of a warrant granted by the FISA court, through misleading and incomplete information and/or lack of professional inquiry by the FISA judges themselves – none of it was above board any way you look at it.

As Nunes and Gowdy have continued to seek information relevant to their investigations, they noticed that in some documents a “source” was referenced, and if this information is not released they are threatening to hold Jeff Sessions in contempt. (How is it possible that an executive branch official who is supposedly on the same page as the President with regard to draining the swamp, can continue to look himself in the mirror after this stonewalling? But that is beside the point here). If it is true that the FBI was spying on a political campaign, this is huuuuge. A huge abuse of government resources and privilege.

House investigators nonetheless sniffed out a name, and Mr. Nunes in recent weeks issued a letter and a subpoena demanding more details. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s response was to double down—accusing the House of “extortion” and delivering a speech in which he claimed that “declining to open the FBI’s files to review” is a constitutional “duty.” Justice asked the White House to back its stonewall. And it even began spinning that daddy of all superspook arguments—that revealing any detail about this particular asset could result in “loss of human lives.”

Kimberley Strassel reports in the Wall Street Journal:

The bureau already has some explaining to do. Thanks to the Washington Post’s unnamed law-enforcement leakers, we know Mr. Nunes’s request deals with a “top secret intelligence source” of the FBI and CIA, who is a U.S. citizen and who was involved in the Russia collusion probe. When government agencies refer to sources, they mean people who appear to be average citizens but use their profession or contacts to spy for the agency. Ergo, we might take this to mean that the FBI secretly had a person on the payroll who used his or her non-FBI credentials to interact in some capacity with the Trump campaign.

This would amount to spying, and it is hugely disconcerting. It would also be a major escalation from the electronic surveillance we already knew about, which was bad enough. Obama political appointees rampantly “unmasked” Trump campaign officials to monitor their conversations, while the FBI played dirty with its surveillance warrant against Carter Page, failing to tell the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court that its supporting information came from the Hillary Clinton campaign. Now we find it may have also been rolling out human intelligence, John Le Carré style, to infiltrate the Trump campaign.

Which would lead to another big question for the FBI: When? The bureau has been doggedly sticking with its story that a tip in July 2016 about the drunken ramblings of George Papadopoulos launched its counterintelligence probe. Still, the players in this affair—the FBI, former Director Jim Comey, the Steele dossier authors—have been suspiciously vague on the key moments leading up to that launch date. When precisely was the Steele dossier delivered to the FBI? When precisely did the Papadopoulos information come in?

And to the point, when precisely was this human source operating? Because if it was prior to that infamous Papadopoulos tip, then the FBI isn’t being straight.

There is more than enough evidence at this point to come to the conclusion that the FBI isn’t being straight, and it hasn’t been straight for a long time. Our Homey Comey was knee deep in the stench, and his self-righteous attitude is all the more putrid with each subsequent reveal of the abuses he oversaw as this nation’s top law enforcement officer. Today people are outraged that a White House aide still has her job after flippantly saying not to worry about John McCain since he’ll be dead soon anyway. Well, we all should be outraged as to why any of these colluders still have their jobs, obstructing justice and truly doing serious damage to America.
