Feds Announce Probe Of NIH Involvement In Planned Parenthood’s Baby Organ Trafficking Schemes
The inspector general for the U.S Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will investigate whether the federal government helped fund Planned Parenthood’s organ harvesting scheme, according to news reports released Tuesday. The HHS inspector general announced its investigation in a letter responding to inquiries from Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and nearly three dozen other U.S. senators.
The new investigation comes on the heels of a series of shocking undercover videos filmed and released by the Center for Medical Progress. Those videos showed multiple senior executives for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, haggling with prospective organ buyers over the prices of body parts harvested from aborted babies. In one of the videos, a Planned Parenthood medical director says she needs to get a good price because, “I want a Lamborghini,” a reference to an extremely expensive luxury car brand.
News reports released on Tuesday indicate that the inspector general for HHS will probe whether research projects sponsored by federal grants from the National Institutes of Health purchased or used organs harvested from aborted babies.
Rand Paul, along with 34 other senators, sent a letter to HHS’s inspector general in October urging the agency watchdog to look into federal grant programs that may have funded the organ harvesting scheme orchestrated by Planed Parenthood. In response to that letter, HHS inspector Daniel Levinson said his office would interview NIH officials and probe how tax dollars were being spent on research using aborted baby organs.
