So this is what democracy looks like?

The deputy also found two gas masks, protective eye goggles and a safety helmet. All three men told the deputy that they had spent the night at the Occupy Portland demonstration, and they brought the mortars and safety equipment to the demonstration in preparation of the expected confrontation between police and protesters Sunday morning.
The three had been at the demonstration during the confrontation Sunday morning and had left about an hour before the vehicle was stopped. During that confrontation, a police officer was injured by a firework, but the three men denied being involved in the incident.
When asked about the explosives, the three men told authorities that they knew the canning jar would explode, causing glass shrapnel to fly and possibly cause injury.

I completely expect for Occupy supporters to try to minimize the threat, insisting that the fireworks and glass bombs posed little or no threat to police.

The fact of the matter is that fireworks are Class C explosives, and that by placing them in mason jars, they have created particularly insidious devices that have shrapnel than cannot be picked up on x-rays, and which can lead to a lingering painful death as the embedded glass shards slowly cut the victim apart from the inside. Such explosives used by a nation in a time of war would be considered war crimes according to both the Hague and Geneva Conventions; as these were manufactured by civilians for use against domestic law enforcement officers, I would make the argument that it is the Justice Department’s responsibility to charge these men with crimes related to domestic terrorism, not that they have the moral fiber to arrest terrorists loyal to a cause that President Obama supports.
