Don's Tuesday Column

THE WAY I SEE IT   by Don Polson  Red Bluff Daily News   1/09/2024

Use resources, stay informed

A couple more “pet peeves” (wishing one of our cats had a “meow” instead of a squawk is literally a “pet peeve,” by the way). One of Barbara’s frequent complaints as she tolerates/ignores some “action” movie I’m streaming is the throwaway line when someone is checking on a beaten-up, bruised and bloodied fellow cop or team member: “Are you alright/OK?”

I know they’re actors repeating memorized lines written by a “screen writer” (who could be replaced by A.I. or artificial intelligence). It’s hard to ignore that, depending on the director’s “style,” a scene may be repeated up to a dozen times to achieve the director’s preferred effect.

However, it must register as ludicrous to someone that a person with obvious (if only “made up”) serious wounds is not OK. Even if asked “How’re you doing?” they’ll simply say “I’m fine; it’s only a flesh wound” or “Just bring me my dismembered parts but go get the bad guy.”

My final pet peeve is politicians or public speakers incessantly waving hands and arms. The old saying applies: “If you held their arms down at their sides, they couldn’t talk.” It’s bipartisan, as hand/arm wavers range from Nancy Pelosi to Nikki Haley; the frenetic habit is a real distraction and I find I can’t really get much out of their message. Neither Biden nor Trump do it, by the way.

An arrest of a homeless transient that attacked or threatened Umpqua Bank employees brings to mind my written observations on that issue. Given the legal restrictions imposed by the 9th Circuit Court—a virtual judicial despot of a court with members so far left that they are the most overturned Circuit Court in America—California, with 10 percent of America’s population, is enduring the economic, drug, criminal and lifestyle deterioration and degeneracy of one-third of America’s homeless.

Other localities in the Western states ruled by the 9th Circuit have come up with ways to diminish the blight; I read that San Diego routinely informs encampments of an intended clearing-out, while informing them of facilities available. Funny thing is that those facilities report few displaced campers showing up. It appears that if illegally camping in public spaces is made sufficiently inconvenient, these people—many of whom are criminals, druggies and need involuntary incarceration for mental problems—tend to go elsewhere. Fine with me, buh-bye.

Regarding the endless COVID variations, and corresponding obsession of our now-entrenched vaccine-pushers, the following sources can help create “informed consent” before you mindlessly line up for shots—shots which may (or may not) protect you.

“Australian Researchers Call for Pause on Gene-Based COVID-19 Vaccines Amid Spike in Excess Deaths,” by Naveen Athrappully (theepochtimes.com). “In one region of Australia, there were 23 times more adverse reactions from COVID-19 vaccines than all other vaccines combined.”

“Why Florida's Surgeon General Has Called for a 'Halt' in the Use of mRNA COVID Vaccines,” by Leah Barkoukis. “Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo is calling for a ‘halt’ in the use of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines over a health risk federal officials dispute.”

“A beginners’ guide to Covid, Part 10: Did masks and social distancing work?” by Paul Weston (conservativewoman.co.uk). “Wearing a bit of cheap cloth round your chops in the hope it will stop a virus is as futile as attempting to snare plankton in a heavy-duty rope fishing net designed to catch cod.

“Masks do have two useful attributes. The first is that they signify, very clearly, our level of compliance…The second useful attribute is that they make people ill, thus causing more fear in the community. Damp, warm, unwashed bits of cloth across your mouth and nose are ideal breeding grounds for bacteria, which are then sucked straight into your lungs.” (parts 1 through 9 linked at this piece)

Unpleasant as it is, think back to the massive, top-down, non-legislated COVID policies enforced by jails, guns and reduced freedom to pursue economic, religious or other happiness—most of you rightly regarded it all as a problem or “bug.” Self-appointed despots saw opportunities, solutions and features, waiting only for the next hysteria-whipping crisis (health or…climate?) to resume controlling you.

You may wonder why pro-Palestine/Hamas protesters were allowed to stop the first day of California’s legislative session (“Another Not-Insurrection: Pro-Palestine Protesters Shut Down California State Capitol”). More importantly, ask why no one was arrested; they essentially did what January 6, 2021 protesters were charged with when Congress was suspended. Double standards?
