Motives Revealed
The host tried twice this morning to get some reporters to admit to an agenda – at least among their colleagues. He was unsuccessful. But that does not change the fact that the evidence is plain. The coverage of the president’s Rushmore speech reveals an agenda, denials of same notwithstanding.
And so too, we find in current California Covid policy a revelation about agendas and motives. Please bear in mind – His Majesty the Emperor, er. California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared all along he is motivated by public health and driven by science. But then we come to the recent policy changes. Restaurant have been reclosed and singing is now banned in church, so ordered in response to the uptick in diagnosis. Just remember that for a minute.
Regular and astute readers will recall that my personal largest pet peeve in California is the disposable bag ban. I have written before about how it is essentially taxation in disguise. What I have failed to discuss in these spaces is the unsanitary nature of reusable bags. Bear in mind people are putting foodstuffs into these bags, the sorts of things the juices of which are essentially bacteria food. Who knows when they are washed? So the reusable bags are basically a breeding ground for germs – a fact acknowledged when one of the first things the state did to fight Covid was lift the bag ban and permit stores to once again give away disposable bags.
But no more. Today I ventured to the grocery store to discover that there are no more disposable bags and I am back to paying $0.10 per reusable bag unless I bring my own. While we’re closing restaurants and vacuuming the guts out of church, we’re making sure our highly unsanitary tax-in-disguise gets reinstated.
So, Your Majesty, er, Governor, the time has come to drop the pretense. You can claim to be all about public health and science, but the evidence is quite plain, you are all about taxes and delegitimizing religion. You are in power, you were duly elected, you have the authority to make these rulings. I acknowledge that. But do not lie to me. Just don’t. Own your actions and invite legitimate debate. Government by deceit and trickery serves only to undermine governmental authority – what little the State of California has left.
