Lying to Charlie Rose isn’t a crime, which is a good thing for Hillary Clinton. If it were, the FBI would have another criminal referral on its hands.
Clinton has claimed that FBI director James Comey, in his testimony before a House committee, “clarified” his statement that her handling of top secret information was “extremely careless.” When she made this claim to Rose, he countered, “But he said it was sloppy.” Clinton responded, “no, he did not.”
Here’s the exchange Clinton and Rose were referring to:
Rep. Scott DesJarlais: I don’t want to put words in your mouth – but is it fair to say that your interpretation of Hillary Clinton’s handling of top secret information and classified documents was extremely careless?FBI Director James Comey: Yes.DesJarlais: And is it fair to say that you said, you went on to define extremely careless, that Hillary Clinton’s handling of top secret information was sloppy or represents sloppiness?Comey: Yeah, that’s another way of trying to express the same concept.
Thus, Clinton is lying twice. First, Comey did not “clarify” his accusation that Clinton was extremely careless — he repeated it. Second, Comey did say that her practices in handling top secret information were “sloppy.”
Nor were these the only falsehoods Clinton peddled to Rose. She continued to deny that she ever sent or received classified information. The FBI found that she did. Even the left-leaningPolitifact rates Clinton’s denial “false.”
Other Clinton claims don’t pass the straight face test. She denied that she — a former First Lady, U.S. Senator, and Secretary of State — is part of the “establishment.” As America Rising says:
Leaving aside that Clinton only clinched the nomination because of superdelegates, yesterday Politico published a story detailing the many behind the scenes maneuvers of President Barack Obama to help Clinton overcome her primary hurdles [including a potential Joe Biden candidacy]. It doesn’t get more establishment than a sitting President from your own party dropping his own Vice President for your candidacy!
Clinton also denied that the campaign of Bernie Sanders had anything to do with her adopting leftist positions that contradicted her previous stances. Sanders believes otherwise, and he is obviously correct.
Scott sometimes quotes Mary McCarthy’s line about Lillian Hellman: “Every word she writes is a lie, including ‘and’ and ‘the.'” Hillary Clinton isn’t that bad. With her, it’s only every other sentence that’s a lie.
