Don's Tuesday Column

THE WAY I SEE IT   by Don Polson   (530) 515-2137   Red Bluff Daily News   5/21/2019
Fallacious, fatuous, fevered fakery

Apparently, not all school shootings merit equal news media coverage. Recent ones failed to conform to, and advance, the narrative useful to the gun control, anti-2nd Amendment (anti-2A), movement started after the Parkland, Florida, school shootings. Absent were the voices and wisdom of “youth,” or at least the students advocating against, and protesting, legal gun ownership.

I disrespect no sincere beliefs either for or against our Constitutional “right to bear arms.” When beliefs abrogate that right, ignore relevant facts, and avoid open debate without hidden agendas—pro-2A folks get our collective backs up and smell gun control rats. Democrats pass laws that consistently restrict the gun rights of the law-abiding.

Well, “scary” types of semi-auto “assault” rifles weren’t used (recent kid-shooters used hand guns); students and adults exercised pro-active and immediate resistance to attack the shooters—even dying in the effort; a “tribute to the victims” rally—that brought anti-2A politicians and Brady gun-control student activists together to attempt to create “spontaneous” demands—actually resulted in a loud walkout by students rejecting manipulation. The media had to fold their news tents and move on, deprived of juicy footage for gun control memes. I say arm all teachers and school personnel; you say guns for none of them. Let’s compromise and allow the training of some. “If it saves one life…”

You can read more on the topic, in “Why the Media Suddenly Lost Interest in the Latest School Shooting,” by Brian C. Joondeph. He quotes the ever-energized Chris Cuomo: “Why is this new reality OK? We’re not attacking the problem…while we refuse to do a damn thing…We’ve done nothing.” Well, Chris, try to follow along: Schools are officially “gun free zones.” Colorado (where the Highland Ranch school shooting occurred) banned 15-plus-round magazines; they also passed a “red flag” gun bill to allow family or law enforcement to petition a court to remove someone’s guns. Legally questionable, it was in effect but not invoked prior to that shooting and, therefore, useless.

Some illegal immigration-oriented stories earned little coverage; they merited more. A parent of a recent school shooter was here (I’m shocked) illegally and deserved prior incarceration and/or removal for violent, criminal acts. A man from Kenya, illegally present in our country, was arrested for serial murders of elderly victims.

An analysis of federal prisons found that almost a third of inmates had illegal immigration-related convictions. They weren’t in federal lockup just for being here unlawfully, but because they committed ancillary crimes after their entry—which is often the case. So much for the falsehood that “undocumented migrants” are more law-abiding than citizens; that would apply to legal immigrants who, as a group, are grateful for America and respect our laws.

Also, “Rapid DNA testing reveals a THIRD of migrants faked family relationship with children to claim asylum during ICE pilot of the procedure in Texas.” The pilot program, over a few days earlier this month in El Paso and McAllen, Texas, found “about 30 per cent of those tested were not related to the children they claimed were their own, an official told the Washington Examiner.” Note that the Examiner is a respectable conservative outlet; the article, by Keith Griffith, was for the British DailyMail.com. Try to guess why it got no cable (maybe FOX), broadcast, NYTimes or Washington Post attention, as of Monday. Like the school shooting, it’s not useful to the Dem/media cabal; must not doubt migrant truthfulness, they’ll say.

A cartoon by “BRANCO,” at Creators.com, put Mr. Biden’s candidacy in pictorial form: Biden is sitting on a big trunk in the “Baggage Claim” area, next to suitcases and bags, holding a “BIDEN 2020” sign. Trunk and bag labels are meant to show Biden inextricably joined with Obama’s record: “ObamaCare Lies,” “You can keep your doctor…”, “Obama regulations and economic disaster” (fact: worst recovery), “5 terrorists for a deserter,” “IRS targeting conservatives,” “$800 billion stimulus disaster,” “Fast and Furious,” “AP Scandal,” (spying on AP reporters), “$150 billion to Iran,” “Benghazi,” “VA Scandal,” and—what did Joe know and when did he know it—"Spygate.”

President Donald J. Trump, holding an up-trending graph, “Trump economy,” simply points to a toothy-smiled Biden and says, “He’s gonna put y’all back in Hope n’ Change.” (refers to Biden’s despicable scare-mongering, to a Black audience, that the Republican candidate would put “ya’ll back in chains.”

I’m sensitive to Mr. Minch’s source preferences for the SF Chronicle, New Yorker, PBS and (likely) CNN/MSNBC. Only he can explain how continuing to cling to conspiracy hoaxes, and harboring visceral disgust for President Trump contributes to his contentment and joy in life. For the record, I rely on Mr. Steele’s own admission in British legal proceedings that none of his assertions in his infamous “Dossier” were, or could be, verified (Ditto Mr. Comey). Mr. Mueller’s report didn’t support Steele’s assertions.

Some of Steele’s hearsay anecdotes (what you have after Steele admitted relying on word-of-mouth from unnamed Russians and online comments at CNN’s website), were disproven by Mueller. Carter Page was cleared of having been in Prague as Steele asserted. Loons on the left continue to scream that Trump solicited cyber crimes when he jokingly said that “the news media” would be grateful if “Russia” could find Hillary’s emails. Many Democrats fervently believe that, while Trump knew he didn’t collude, he obstructed justice by trying to prove his innocence.

Finally, some scientific report projected (when did science morph into “crystal ball gazing”?) that “a million species” would go extinct in 10 or 20 years because of human-caused warming. It took mere minutes for knowledgeable observers to point out that a similar prediction was made about 30 years ago. Within 10 years, which would have been around 2000, “a million” extinctions would occur. Instead of computer models and pompous resumes, please list actual extinct species if you want credibility.
