LINDA MCMAHON TO HEAD THE SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION [WITH COMMENT BY JOHN]
Donald Trump has selected businesswoman Linda McMahon to run the Small Business Administration. McMahon helps run a big business — Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment. She founded the company with her husband Vince McMahon and served as its CEO from 1997 until 2009, when she stepped down to pursue, unsuccessfully, a Senate seat.
Her company’s market capitalization is said to be $1.5 billion. Reportedly, Linda McMahon owns $84 million in WWE stock.
One can look at the selection of Ms. McMahon as a “team of rivals” pick, at least indirectly. Her husband Vince was a wrestling rival of Donald Trump. At WrestleMania 23 in 2007, Trump and Vince McMahon faced off in a “Battle of Billionaires.” After McMahon’s representative lost the fight, Trump shaved McMahon’s hair in the ring.
Who could make this stuff up?
According to a Washington Post reporter, between 2007 and 2009, Vince and Linda McMahon donated $5 million to the Donald J. Trump Foundation. This reportedly made the couple the biggest outside donors to Trump’s foundation.
Even Bill and Hillary Clinton would consider that kind of donation HUGE.
Linda McMahon also donated $6 million to Trump’s campaign this summer. It seems to have paid off.
JOHN adds: My son is now very successful in the business world, but when he was a teenager he was a big WWE fan. He considers Linda McMahon’s appointment to be one of Trump’s best yet. He texts:
You could make a case WWE has been the most innovative small business in the last 30 years, at least in mediaWent from a small company, to driving massive ppv and cable sales, and then before the bottom fell out launched their own over the top internet tv network
One of his sisters interjects:
Second to the kardashians.
He continues:
I pay $9.99 a month to WWE for their channel on all my devices, available world wide
Sister:
Wow. You’re getting robbed.
He continues:
They were way ahead of the timesEveryone slammed Vince for cutting into his cable revenues by launching the streaming serviceTried to oust him as chairman
But Vince and Linda came out on top–which is actually a wrestling metaphor, if you think about it. I never cared for pro wrestling, but my son has a point: why not appoint a wildly successful small businesswoman to head the SBA? Not to mention the fact that Donald Trump is a member of the WWE Hall of Fame.
