The Unbearable Whiteness Of Climate Protest

The Unbearable Whiteness Of Climate Protest

The Unbearable Whiteness Of Climate Protest

Monday morning, a group of mainly white protesters, who apparently don’t have jobs, shut down streets in Washington, D.C., a city predominantly made up of people of color. Presumably, many people who do have jobs were prevented from getting to them. And this raises a question: Is this kind of a climate protest an example of white privilege? Is this form of protest on this particular issue something the protesters’ skin tone and economic privilege make possible?
This is an issue CNN contributor Bakari Sellers raised in an opinion piece last month. He writes: “Climate change should be a definitive issue for Black voters, but it isn’t. That is partly because environmental advocacy groups have not always looked like us, nor have they clarified what solutions mean for our communities. And few have articulated what real environmental justice looks like.”
There is a reason for this. For white progressives, climate change is a unique issue in which racial guilt plays little to no role. Other issues such as police brutality, income inequality, and even women’s rights and access to abortion are steeped in what they perceive as the racist foundation of our country. On these issues, white protesters in the post-Occupy age feel they bear no small amount of collective guilt. But on climate change, for once, they can be the victim, not just the ally.
And man, are they enjoying it. This is the moment for angry, young white people not only to be angry, but to actually be oppressed. It is their own future that they believe is being stripped from them by failure to accept that if we don’t act in the next eight minutes, all is lost. It is their lives that amorphous and evil global corporate and government powers are endangering.
Finally, they can express righteous indignation not just in support of the rights and lives of others, but to protect themselves. It is their Malcolm X in blue jeans moment, a thrilling opportunity to stick it to the man, whoever that might be. The poster child is not a murdered black youth, but a young girl from Sweden astride a solar-powered boat defending the future of lily-white protesters everywhere.
This is not to say that the supposed impact of climate change on black and brown people in far-flung exotic places plays no role in the mostly white climate protest movement. Protesters pay lip service to such concerns, with the traditional condemnation of the West that ignores, for example, China’s much greater role in the problem. But it’s a backseat issue. The real issue is that in a progressive movement dominated by identity and race, the white kids finally have their own hill to die on.
The irony, of course, is that cheap energy has done more to lift people all across the globe out of poverty than anything in human history. The clamp-down on carbon that these privileged college kids insist upon will do more to secure their economic dominance than anything a white supremacist could come up with in his mother’s basement. They want to slam the brakes on economic progress while they are on top. After all, once some future Democrat in the White House forgives their student debt, they’ll have plenty of money to pay $10 a gallon for gas.
There is perhaps one antecedent to this primarily white protest movement, and it is related. The violent anti-globalist protests of the late ’90s and early 2000s, specifically in the Pacific Northwest, gave birth to the American Antifa Black Bloc movement. As with climate change hysteria, it gave privileged, well-educated white kids the opportunity to play the victim. And today’s climate protesters are following that example with great aplomb, even if they aren’t throwing chairs through windows — yet.
This is the fight for the young white progressive, who maybe, just maybe, is feeling a little tired of having to take the backseat. On this issue, they get to move back to the front of the bus, lead, and bemoan their own oppression. Ah, to be oppressed, the golden ticket of progressive culture, the chance to shine. The moment when they can focus on themselves and accept the applause and grave approval of the progressive culture. Well, it was bound to happen. And they are truly making the most of it.

Don’t Listen to Greta Thunberg

Don’t Listen to Greta Thunberg
By RICH LOWRY

Greta Thunberg speaks during the Climate Action Summit at the United Nations, September 23, 2019. (Carlo Allegri/Reuters)
She is a pawn being used by adults for their own interests.
Greta Thunberg needs to get a grip.

The celebrity teen climate activist addressed the United Nations and excoriated the assembled worthies: “You all come to us young people for hope. How dare you! You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words.”

Someone may have stolen her childhood, but the guilty parties can’t be found at Turtle Bay. A 16-year-old from Sweden, Thunberg thundered, “I should be back at school on the other side of the ocean,” which would have been easy enough to achieve, beginning with not taking two weeks to sail across the Atlantic last month in a jet-travel-eschewing publicity stunt.

Greta Thunberg is the leading edge of a youth movement against climate change — including a global “climate strike” last week — that is being promoted and celebrated by adults who find it useful for their own purposes.

Kids are powerful pawns. The catchphrase “for the children” has a seductive political appeal, while kids offer their adult supporters a handy two-step. The same people who say, “The world must heed this 16-year-old girl” will turn around and say to anyone who pushes back, “How dare you criticize a 16-year-old girl?” (I can feel the tweets filling up my mentions right now.)

There’s a reason that we don’t look to teenagers for guidance on fraught issues of public policy. With very rare exceptions — think, say, the philosopher John Stuart Mill, who was a child prodigy — kids have nothing interesting to say to us. They just repeat back what they’ve been told by adults, with less nuance and maturity.

Much of the climate advocacy of young people boils down to the plaint that all parents know well: “I want it, and I want it now.” As one headline on a National Geographic story put it, “Kids’ world climate strikes demand that warming stop, fast.”

Behind the foot-stomping is the idea that a long-running global phenomenon could be quickly stopped, if only adults cared as much as the kids did. This fails to account for such recalcitrant factors as costs and complexity, but when do children ever think of those? (And who can blame them? They’re children.)

Instead, the youthful climate activists claim they’ve been sold out by their elders. Greta Thunberg put it with her usual accusatory starkness at the U.N.: “You are failing us, but young people are starting to understand your betrayal.”

This is laughable. By no global measure of social and economic well-being have we failed kids. According to HumanProgress.org, the global poverty rate fell from 28 percent in 1999 to 11 percent in 2013. Life expectancy increased from 63.2 years to 71.9 years from 1981 to 2015. The completion rate for primary school increased from 80 percent in 1981 to 90 percent in 2015. The same benign trends hold for hunger, child labor, literacy, and so on.

If climate change proves a significant challenge, today’s youth will have more resources and technology to grapple with it than any other generation in the history of mankind.

Of course, the adults they listen to don’t tell them any of this. Instead, they feed the kids a diet of apocalyptic warnings that children repeat back as if they were urgent insights. One speaker at the youth climate rally in Washington, D.C., last week said that we have just 18 months — yes, only until the beginning of 2021 — to forestall irreversible environmental harms.

According to National Geographic, “more than a few teens who began as fervent activists have dropped out, citing depression, anxiety, and other fears that the world’s leaders will not act in time to prevent their lives — and the lives of their children — from being irretrievably altered by climate change.”

213
This is nuts, and it’s the adult enablers who are ultimately responsible. As for the kids, they’ll be all right. One day, they will grow up, even in a warming world.

RACE AND THE BLAME GAME

RACE AND THE BLAME GAME

This story from the Washington Post appears regularly these days in something like this form:
The [name of county in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area] school system is well regarded. However, minority students continue to lag behind, and some parents complain that the school system isn’t doing right by their children.
The latest version pertains to the Arlington, Virginia public schools. The Post reports:
There is no shortage of praise or accolades for Arlington Public Schools. Students in the suburban D.C. school system outperform their peers on state tests. Most high school students graduate with advanced diplomas. The district spends nearly $20,500 per student, more than any other district in a region flush with well-heeled public schools.
It’s the best school system in Virginia, according to the most recent standings on the ranking website Niche.
But a growing chorus of black parents in the 27,500-student school system is disrupting the narrative — the school system is excellent, they say, for wealthy, able-bodied white students and less so for everyone else.
But what evidence supports the claim that the same school system is excellent for able-bodied white students and less than excellent for other students? Critics point out that 93 percent of white students in Arlington schools pass a state math exam, compared to only 71 percent of black students.
But what evidence shows that this is because instruction in math is better for white students than for black ones? The Post presents none.
Nor is there any reason to assume that Arlington teachers teach math one way to white students and another way to black students. It does seem to be true that blacks aren’t placed in “gifted” programs at nearly the same rate as whites. But a student doesn’t need to be in a program for the gifted to pass a state math exam for which the pass rate exceeds 80 percent.
In any case, a racial disparity in gifted program participation rates does not demonstrate that black students are being treated unfairly. The school system’s “equity and excellence supervisor” says there’s a gap in the degree to which parents are aware of the processes through which students gain entry into these programs. Instead of complaining that the school system isn’t fair, parents should better inform themselves about programs for gifted students.
It may also be that minority students disproportionately fail to meet the objective criteria for being in a gifted program. It may be that they are already behind by the time they enter the school system. No less an authority than Joe “keep the record player on” Biden has argued that they are.
I’m kidding, of course, about Biden being an authority. However, there is evidence to support his claim on this particular point.
There have always been some parents who blame schools for their kids’ lack of success. We used to laugh this off.
These days, playing the race card in furtherance of blame shifting precludes us from laughing. But it doesn’t make the blame shifting any more plausible.

Whistleblower Complaint Has Been Released and It's Another Nothingburger

(Screenshot via Scribd)
The House Intelligence Committee on Thursday released the declassified whistleblower complaint on President Trump's phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Utah Republican Rep. Chris Stewart said he was initially "anxious" before reading it, but is now is "much more confident than I was this morning that this is going to go nowhere. ... there are just no surprises there." He added, "The entirety of it is focused on this one thing, and that's the transcript of one phone call, the transcript that was released [Wednesday] morning."
According to the anonymous whistleblower, "I was not a direct witness to most of these events described," but instead based the complaint on "various facts" he or she was informed of by "more than half a dozen officials." The whistleblower claims to have learned from "multiple U.S. officials" that "senior White House officials had intervened to 'lock down' all records of the phone call."
Here's another interesting part:
During this same timeframe,  multiple U.S. officials told me that the Ukrainian leadership was led to believe that a meeting or phone call between the President and President Zelenskyy would depend on whether Zelenskyy showed willingness to "play ball" on the issues that had been publicly aired by Mr. Lutsenko and Mr. Giuliani.
Overall, the complaint centers around the July 25th phone call, and uses anonymous sources and media reports to substantiate the complaint.
President Trump reacted to the release on Twitter:
Fred Fleitz, former NSC Chief of Staff, CIA analyst and House Intelligence Committee staff member, read and reacted to the complaint on Twitter. "As a former CIA analyst and former NSC official who edited transcripts of POTUS phone calls with foreign leaders, here are my thoughts on the whistleblower complaint which was just released... This is not an intelligence matter. It is a policy matter and a complaint about differences over policy. Presidential phone calls are not an intelligence concern. The fact that IC officers transcribe these calls does not give the IC IG jusrisdiction [sic] over these calls."
Fleitz also believes that this whistleblower didn't act alone in generating the complaint. "The way this complaint was written suggested the author had a lot of help. I know from my work on the House Intel Commitee [sic] staff that many whistleblowers go directly to the intel oversight committees. Did this whistleblower first meet with House Intel committee members?" Fleitz believes Congress needs to investigate where this complaint came from and whether Democrats on the House and Senate Intelligence Committees know about it in advance and if they helped orchestrate it. Fleitz expects this complaint will further damage intelligence community relations for years to come because intelligence officers "appear to be politicizing presidential phone calls with foreign officials and their access to the president and his activities in the White House."

News headlines often blast President Trump and Republicans for supposedly eroding civic norms, yet Democrats get a free pass from mainstream journalists for their corruption that frays trust in government and ultimately trust in the media itself.
The latest case in point is the silence surrounding Republican Senator Robert Menendez, who was severely admonished at age 64 by the Senate Ethics Committee for serious ethics violations tied to a federal corruption indictment, blocking former Republican Representative Darrell Issa from serving as the next director of the Trade and Development Agency, allegedly because Issa used fake identification at age 17.
The lack of media outrage over the intransigence of Menendez against Issa, who is a successful entrepreneur with significant strengths that he can bring to the trade development role on behalf of the American people, is fitting with repeated and vitriolic personal attacks by both reporters and pundits alike, against not only President Trump, but those who seek to serve in his administration. This hurts all the interests of all citizens in the name of liberal media obstruction.
As a sitting senator, Menendez was admonished by all six members of the Senate Ethics Committee, including the three Democrats, for accepting lavish gifts and travel from Salomon Melgen, an eye doctor convicted of defrauding Medicare by $73 million and sentenced to 17 years in federal prison. The indictment against Menendez alleged that he intervened on behalf of Melgen in Medicare billing, pressured federal officials about a $500 million port security contract between a company owned by Melgen and the Dominican Republic, and helped secure visas for girlfriends of Melgen. The FBI also investigated whether Menendez paid for underage prostitutes while in the Dominican Republic.
In stark contrast, Issa, now age 65, as a teenager used fake identification at age 17 so that he could enter bars and drink. Since then, Issa as an adult has received multiple security clearances, including while serving in the United States Army and as a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence in Congress. He also cofounded a successful multimillion dollar car security business.
The sins of these two men could not be further apart, yet with impunity, the mainstream media attacks the Trump administration as inept while Democrats like Senate Foreign Relations Committee Ranking Member Menendez obliterate civic norms by stalling President Trump’s nominees at rates that far surpass his predecessors. It’s no wonder the Trump administration has expressed concerns that Senate Democrats are “weaponizing” the Senate cloture process.
The media hypocrisy would be astounding if it wasn’t already normalized by a national press corps with entrenched bias against conservatives and Republicans (a sampling of anti-Trump media headlines: “Trump Has Figured Out How to Corrupt the Entire Government,” “A cancer on the presidency,” “Norm Conquest: Trump is set to undermine the things you take for granted in government and public life.”) The lack of media accountability for Menedez’ behavior against Issa is the latest example of press bias against conservatives highlighted in a 2019 Pew report that found 73 percent of Republicans believe that the national mainstream media does not understand “people like them,” according to the report.
Additional 2018 Pew research found that “Most Americans also continue to think the news media favor one side when covering political and social issues. About two-thirds (68%) say this, compared with three-in-ten who say they deal fairly with all sides. And as in previous years, Republicans (86%) are far more likely than Democrats (52%) to say news organizations favor one side.”
Journalists often express outrage and fear over the anger and frustration that President Trump and his supporters express against the mainstream media, yet these journalists don’t consider their own behavior. Monmouth University polling found 77 percent of Americans believe the media creates fake news. What is even more telling is that 65 percent said fake news includes biased or slanted news coverage, not just factually inaccurate information. The case of Menendez and Issa is another example of slanted, biased media priorities that favor entrenched, liberal ideology over an administration hired by American voters to fight for their interests.

A Platform of Urban Decline

A Platform of Urban Decline
Democratic presidential candidates believe America is racist, yet they ignore the evidence on crime and ensure that racial disparities persist.

Heather Mac Donald

September 23, 2019 Politics and law

Democratic accusations that America is endemically racist are becoming ever more frequent and strident. At the last presidential debate, Pete Buttigieg announced that “systemic racism” will “be with us” regardless of who wins the presidency; Beto O’Rourke claimed that racism in America is “foundational” and that people of color were under “mortal threat” from the “white supremacist in the White House”; Julián Castro denounced the growing threat of “white supremacy”; and Cory Booker called for “attacking systemic racism,” especially in the “racially biased” criminal-justice system.

At the same time, the allowable explanations for racial disparities have shrunk to one: that self-same racism. During this month’s debate, Joe Biden tried to suggest that some poor parents could benefit from instruction regarding optimal child-rearing practices: “We [should] bring social workers into homes of parents to help them deal with how to raise their children. It’s not that they don’t want to help, they don’t want — they don’t know quite what to do,” he said. Biden was invoking one of the Obama administration’s key anti-poverty initiatives. Home-visiting programs pair nurses and other social service workers with pregnant women and new mothers to teach them parenting skills. Progressive activists have demanded and won hundreds of millions of federal dollars for such programs, yet pundits have denounced Biden’s “horrifyingly racist answer,” in the words of The Intercept, and called for him to pull out of the presidential primary because of it. Buttigieg sniffed that Biden’s statement was “well-intentioned” but “bad,” since it ignored the fact that “racial inequity” in this country was “put into place on purpose.”

In today’s political climate, Barack Obama’s 2008 Father’s Day speech in Chicago would be deemed an unforgivable outburst of white supremacy. “If we are honest with ourselves,” Obama told his audience in a South Side church, Americans will admit that too many fathers are “missing—missing from too many lives and too many homes. They have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men.” In the current frenzy of intersectional rhetoric, any such reference to personal responsibility brands the speaker as irredeemably bigoted.

Yet key parts of the intersectional narrative are not born out by data. It is now a standard trope, implanted in freshmen summer reading lists through the works of Ta-Nehesi Coates and others, that whites pose a severe, if not mortal, threat to blacks. That may have once been true, but it is no longer so today. Just this month, the Bureau of Justice Statistics released its 2018 survey of criminal victimization. According to the study, there were 593,598 interracial violent victimizations (excluding homicide) between blacks and whites last year, including white-on-black and black-on-white attacks. Blacks committed 537,204 of those interracial felonies, or 90 percent, and whites committed 56,394 of them, or less than 10 percent. That ratio is becoming more skewed, despite the Democratic claim of Trump-inspired white violence. In 2012-13, blacks committed 85 percent of all interracial victimizations between blacks and whites; whites committed 15 percent. From 2015 to 2018, the total number of white victims and the incidence of white victimization have grown as well.

Blacks are also overrepresented among perpetrators of hate crimes—by 50 percent—according to the most recent Justice Department data from 2017; whites are underrepresented by 24 percent. This is particularly true for anti-gay and anti-Semitic hate crimes.

You would never know such facts from the media or from Democratic talking points. This summer, three shockingly violent mob attacks on white victims in downtown Minneapolis were captured by surveillance video. On August 3, in broad daylight, a dozen black assailants, some as young as 15, tried to take a man’s cellphone, viciously beating and kicking him as he lay on the ground. They jumped on his torso like a trampoline, stripped his shoes and pants off as they riffled through his pockets, smashed a planter pot on his head, and rode a bike over his prostrate body. On August 17, another large group kicked and punched their victim until he was unconscious, stealing his phone, wallet, keys, and cash. In July, two men were set upon in similar fashion. Such attacks have risen more than 50 percent in downtown Minneapolis this year.

The Minneapolis media have paid fleeting attention to these videos; the mainstream national media, almost none (CNN blamed the attacks on police understaffing and ignored the evident racial hatred that was the most salient aspect of the attacks). This year’s installments of the usual flash mob rampages on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile and in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor have also been ignored. If the race of perpetrators and victims in any of these incidents were reversed, there would be a universal uproar, with public figures across the board denouncing “white supremacist” violence and calling for a national reckoning regarding white racism. But because the violence does not fit the standard narrative about American race relations, it is kept carefully off stage.

In 2008, Barack Obama was able to connect such lawlessness to family breakdown. “Children who grow up without a father are five times more likely to live in poverty and commit crime; nine times more likely to drop out of schools and twenty times more likely to end up in prison,” he pointed out in his Chicago speech. Today’s taboo on acknowledging the behavioral roots of criminal-justice system involvement, multi-generational poverty, and the academic-achievement gap is not a civil rights advance. To the contrary, it will ensure that racial disparities persist, where they can be milked by opportunistic politicians and activists seeking to parade their own alleged racial sensitivity and to deflect attention away from the cultural changes that must occur for full racial parity to be realized.

Media Corruption On Perfect Display In One Washington Post Paragraph

Media Corruption On Perfect Display In One Washington Post Paragraph

Every single assertion of this paragraph isn't just wrong, but the opposite of right. In each sentence, Trump is being blamed for things his political opponents have done.
Mollie Hemingway
By
ABC News’ White House correspondent Karen Travers approvingly tweeted out a paragraph of a front-page Washington Post rant written by Philip Rucker, Robert Costa, and Rachel Bade. The paragraph comes from their cri de coeur headlined “Trump’s Ukraine Call Reveals A President Convinced Of His Own Invincibility.”
While the article matches the headline in its extreme bias and shrill outpouring of opinion — seemingly written by the Democratic National Committee’s newest batch of enthusiastic interns — it is presented as if it’s news, a common problem with our current media culture. Here’s the paragraph:
Every single assertion of this paragraph isn’t just wrong, but the opposite of right. In each sentence, Trump is being blamed for things his political opponents have done. Let’s take a look at some examples.
Trump’s sense of himself as above the law has been reinforced throughout his time in office.
In fact, the main problem during the Trump administration has been the way the self-annointed “Resistance” in the media, unelected bureaucracy, and political institutions have treated Trump as if he were below the law. Traditionally, hard-fought losses are usually followed by an acceptance of the reality of election results, even if grudgingly.
In the case of Donald Trump, his campaign was spied on prior to the election by the intelligence services and government apparatus controlled by the opposing party. They used wiretaps, national security letters, human informants, and other surveillance. His transition was undermined by leaks suggesting that the FBI took seriously an uncorroborated and ludicrous collection of tall tales, “research” later determined to have been secretly funded by Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee.
President Trump has yet to be treated as the legitimate winner of the free and fair election he won in 2016. Some 70 Democrats refused to go to his inauguration in protest. The weaponized opposition material from Trump’s political enemies was used to get his national security advisor terminated, his attorney general sidelined from any oversight of his agency, to scare foreign leaders from effectively engaging in foreign policy discussions, to keep good people from serving in his administration, and to ruin the lives of anyone who worked with Trump to secure his victory.
Elites in the media, government, and political institutions have discussed ousting him through the 25th amendment, impeachment, manipulation of the economy, and other extreme measures. Fired FBI director James Comey was found to have violated Trump’s civil liberties when he violated FBI policies governing investigations. Rucker, Costa, and Bade, it might be noted, provide no evidence in support of their regurgitation of the Resistance talking point that Trump views himself as above the law.
As detailed in the Mueller report, he received help from a foreign adversary in 2016 without legal consequence.
What in the world? What are Philip Rucker, Bob Costa, and Rachel Bade smoking? This was not “detailed” in the Mueller report. This is not even a remotely accurate summation of that report, even while acknowledging how partisan of a report it was.
In fact, the report found that the entire basis for the investigation — supposed treasonous collusion with Russia to steal the 2016 election — had no evidence in support of it. Not only did Trump not conspire with Russia to steal the 2016 election, not a single American was found to have done so. Are they trying to elevate the significance of Russia’s 100-year-old practice of meddling in U.S. elections, and falsely characterize those efforts as unidirectional in favor of Trump?
There are countries such as China that desperately want to defeat Trump and had that interest in the 2018 midterm elections and in 2020 elections. We know that China is actively manipulating its actions to help achieve the goal of a Trump loss in 2020. Are Rucker, Costa and Bade suggesting that whichever Democrat Trump runs against should face “legal consequence” for whatever machinations they employ?
It is unclear what “legal consequence” Rucker, Costa, and Bade are fantasizing about, particularly considering it’s a fantasy that even Andrew Weissman’s politically motivated special counsel team couldn’t dream of suggesting.
He sought to thwart the Russia investigation and possibly obstruct justice without consequence.
Here, Rucker, Costa, and Bade blame Trump for not sitting silently while being falsely accused of being a traitor who had colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election. Treason is a crime punishable by death, but apparently President Trump complained too loudly about the false allegations made against him for Rucker, Costa, and Bade’s liking.
Through the government, he has earned profits for his businesses without consequence.
The Washington Post has been absolutely desperate to make some kind of financial impropriety case against Trump. The only problem is that they are more frequently writing about how the Resistance has effectively tarnished Trump’s brand globally. The Trump organization is a global business concern that did not disappear when Trump took office, even if he stepped away from running it.
Apparently Rucker, Costa, and Bade think that the company should not be permitted to operate while Trump is in office. It’s an interesting theory.
It’s a particularly interesting theory given that this entire story is being written relative to the tremendous financial gain the Biden family realized during the Obama presidency, when Joe Biden served as vice president. Hunter Biden, the vice president’s son, went from being released from the military for his cocaine use to receiving a large monthly stipend from an energy concern in the Ukraine, despite his complete lack of qualifications. He also benefited mightily from Chinese interests.
Only the media could be upset that a global business concern continued to be a global business concern while expressing not a whiff of interest in the way that politicians with no business concerns profit during periods of power.
He has blocked Congress’s ability to conduct oversight without consequence.
The Constitution’s Article 1 branch should be deferred to as much as possible, even with extreme requests, and the executive branch never cooperates with oversight as much as it should. But the worst example of this failure during the Trump administration was the Department of Justice’s refusal to cooperate with the House’s probes of its surveillance of Trump.
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein repeatedly slow-walked or refused to provide material as requested by various House committees, successfully keeping the agency’s bad behavior from concerned Republican investigators, all the way to the 2018 midterms. By contrast, Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross were held in contempt of Congress even as they protested that they were cooperating with probes.
Speaking of blocking Congress’s ability to conduct oversight without consequence, however, wait until Rucker, Costa, and Bade hear about former attorney general Eric Holder’s handling of inquiries into a gun-running scandal that led to deaths of Americans! It’s not quite the same as requests for personal or private material of the president that have nothing to do with congressionally authorized or funded government activities, but it’s pretty interesting.
In other words, every sentence in the Washington Post paragraph is well past the point of bias, or slant, or not being even-handed. These sentences are outright and blatant and unabashed falsehoods in the service of a particular political party and agenda.
The Washington Post is singularly and relentlessly devoted to taking down the Republican president. This paragraph shows what so many other paragraphs in so many other articles show, day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year: some reporters are willing to express false statements in service to one political party and in opposition to another.

This is not journalism, but propaganda.
