Panic Attack! POLITICO Warns Democrats Their 'Entire Brand' Is a 'Wreck'

Panic Attack! POLITICO Warns Democrats Their 'Entire Brand' Is a 'Wreck'

Screenshot via YouTube

There’s a growing trend I’ve noticed these last few weeks of Democrats and Dem-friendly media elites giving stern warnings to the Biden White House that they’ve seriously screwed things up — and might not have enough time to unscrew them in time for the midterm elections.

Last week, I wrote a lovely little VIP piece on just that topic. If you’ll recall, Presidentish Joe Biden had been warned by Max Boot, progressive journalist Zaid Jilani, and Walter Shapiro that he was enabling Republicans, creating chaos at home and abroad, and being generally clueless about current political realities.

But none of those compare with what POLITICO’s David Siders had to say on Tuesday.

Siders got hold of a post-Virginia autopsy (so to speak) commissioned by Democrats to figure out what went wrong in the November 2 election there. What they found, according to Siders, was that “the Democratic Party’s entire brand was a wreck.”

Lefty political group Third Way used polls and focus groups to find out what Virginia voters thought about Democrats, locally and nationally.

“Voters couldn’t name anything that Democrats had done, except a few who said we passed the infrastructure bill,” Third Way concluded. I bet you’d also find that voters are skeptical about the benefits of the so-called infrastructure bill, which 9-to-1 spends on things that aren’t infrastructure.

It gets worse — or better if, like me, you aren’t a Democrat and stand against most everything they stand for:

Most of the voters Third Way spoke with in suburban Virginia focus groups, according to the report, “could not articulate what Democrats stand for. They could also not say what they are doing in Washington, besides fighting.”

And those were just the people who voted for Biden.

Ouch.

You’re probably already aware that polls give Republicans an unprecedented 10-point lead on next year’s generic ballot and that more than 60% feel the country is on the wrong track.

“That’s a poisonous environment for Democrats,” writes Siders, “and the remedy — if one even exists — isn’t clear.”

Also for our VIPs: Great News For Republicans in Arizona

Current Democrat policies, if you’ll allow me to be unmercifully brief in my summary, are:

  • To spend trillions we don’t have while inflation picks up speed
  • Wage war against concerned parents as domestic terrorists
  • Do nothing about our logistical snarls (for fear of offending unions and other Dem groups)
  • Fomenting a race war Manson would be proud of, apparently
  • End American energy independence while fuel prices are rising

Arguably worse, is trash like this:

We’re still 4.2 million jobs short of the pre-pandemic high, economic growth is not good once inflation is taken into account, and small businesses got crushed by Democrats during the pandemic.

People know these things because they feel it in their pinched paychecks and see it in the still-empty storefronts, every single day.

Either the White House is completely tone-deaf or they honestly have no clue about what real Americans have experienced since Biden took office (with the accent on “took”).

Americans are a forgiving people, but we’re also the people who coined the aphorism, “Don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining.”

Mistakes, we can forgive. Treating us like idiot children, not so much.

Maybe that’s why Siders included this line in his piece: “Following the House’s passage of the social spending package on Friday, one Democratic strategist who advises major donors said, ‘Too late. We’re f—ed.'”

“A lot can change between now and election day,” is what Fully Licensed and Accredited Opinion Writers of America™ are required to add at this point in any election-related column.

That said, the sternness of the warnings being given by Democrats, combined with the tin ear of this administration, makes me think that if things change for Democrats between now and election day, they will only change for the worse.

BIDEN’S APPROVAL RATING FALLS AS INFLATION RISES

BIDEN’S APPROVAL RATING FALLS AS INFLATION RISES

BY PAUL MIRENGOFF IN INFLATIONJOE BIDENPOLL

A new survey by NPR/Marist places Joe Biden’s approval at 42 percent. That’s a new low for Biden in this particular poll.

37 percent of those surveyed strongly disapprove of Biden’s performance. Only 13 percent strongly approve.

At 42 percent, Biden’s approval number is exactly the same as the percentage that approves of the way he’s handling the economy. Clearly, “it’s the economy stupid.” Or maybe it’s the stupid way in which Biden is handling the economy.

Inflation is at the forefront of voter discontent with Biden. 39 percent of those surveyed name inflation as the most important economic concern. That’s more than twice the number — 17 percent — that cites wages. Labor shortages (11 percent) and unemployment (10 percent) come next. Labor shortages are part of what’s driving inflation.

I’m surprised the percentage citing inflation as the most important economic concern isn’t higher. As John noted earlier today, according to a Yahoo News/YouGov poll, 77 percent of Americans say inflation is affecting their lives. 51 percent say they’re worried they “won’t be able to afford what they need during the holidays due to inflation.” Notably, only 18 percent say Biden is doing enough to address inflation.

This survey was conducted before Biden ordered the release of 50 million barrels of oil from our Strategic Petroleum Reserve. This move will probably help bring down the price of gasoline a bit, and it shows that Biden is no longer oblivious to concerns about inflation. However, it’s not likely to bring down the overall inflation number by any significant degree.

Meanwhile, the two spending programs Biden has pushed — one of which was already enacted with some Republican support — will/would increase inflationary pressure. Biden claims that “17 Nobel Prize winners in economics have said that my plan will ease inflationary pressures.” But this statement is highly misleading.

As Ramesh Ponnuru points out, what these economists actually said is that Biden’s plan would “ease longer-term inflationary pressures.” Several of them admit the obvious — that by pumping more money into the economy, Biden’s program would increase inflation in 2022. Any downward pressure on prices would come later, due to hoped-for productivity increases.

Ponnuru argues that the hoped-for productivity increases are probably pie-in-the-sky. He cites the Penn Wharton Budget Model which estimates that the net effect of the Democrats’ bill on the economy, even in the very long term, will be negative.

I doubt that anyone really knows what the long-term effect of Biden’s program on inflation will/would be. But there’s little doubt that in the short-to-medium term, the effect will be inflationary.

The polls discussed above show that this is bad news for Joe Biden and his party. It might be better for them politically if Sens. Manchin and Sinema prevent passage of a reconciliation bill — the larger of the two spending packages.

GAVIN NEWSOM’S SYMPATHIES

GAVIN NEWSOM’S SYMPATHIES

BY PAUL MIRENGOFF IN CALIFORNIACRIMELENIENT SENTENCING

The Bay Area of California is now the “Shoplifting Capital of America,” as Rich Lowry dubs it. Things are so bad that Gov. Gavin Newsom paid the area a visit.

Newsom declared that he has “no empathy or sympathy” for the shoplifters. It’s noteworthy, and a little scary, that the governor felt he had to say this. Until recently, it went without saying that elected officials didn’t empathize or sympathize with criminals, and certainly not with organized criminals, which is how Newsom described many of the shoplifters.

But does Newsom’s declaration of “no empathy or sympathy” reflect his true beliefs? It was Newsom who released thousands of prisoners — an estimated 8,000 of them — during the pandemic. Newsom also supported the elimination of cash bail.

Newsome also backed Prop 47 when he was Lieutenant Governor. It converted many offenses from felonies to misdemeanors. Shoplifting was among those offenses so reduced.

These moves demonstrate Newsom’s sympathy for criminals, including many guilty of worse offenses than looting. They also show a disregard for public safety. Indeed, they amount to giving higher priority to helping criminals than to protecting the law-abiding public from them.

To be fair to Newsom, he never advocated defunding the police. However, he did indulge in BS about “reimagining” law enforcement, by which he meant enlisting social and mental health workers. And, as the crime wave gained momentum, Newsom wouldn’t commit to increasing funding for the police.

Newsom’s visit to the Bay Area may have enlightened him, at least a little bit. His team met with retailers and asked them what they needed to stem the shoplifting/looting epidemic. They didn’t respond by asking for social workers or mental health professionals. They asked for “more law enforcement presence at store locations.”

According to this report, Newsom responded by “hint[ing] that there is an ‘exponential’ increase in supporting these local efforts within the state budget, but did not get into detail.” There had better be an exponential increase in police funding, because if the existing police force is diverted into patrolling stores, it will be less able to deal with crime on the street.

Newsom has been mugged by reality, but it’s clear that he realizes it.

15 States Join Forces to Protect Oil Industry from ‘Woke’ Banks

'Reckless attacks on law-abiding energy companies'

Fifteen states have announced they will push against banks that divest from the fossil fuel industry.

The announcement said that the coalition of top state financial officers represents over $600 billion in public assets under management.

The officials warned the banking industry leaders in a letter that they would consider institutions’ boycotts of fossil fuel companies before awarding state contracts.

“Reckless attacks on law-abiding energy companies cut off paychecks for workers and take food off the tables of hard-working families,” Moore and the other officials wrote.

“The Biden Administration has resumed these attacks by attempting to ban energy exploration on public lands and reportedly pressuring U.S. banks and financial institutions to limit, encumber, or outright refuse to finance for traditional energy production companies.”

“These misguided political schemes have impeded economic growth, driven up consumer costs, and regressed our country to foreign energy dependence,” the letter continued.

They argued the fossil fuel industry provides jobs, health insurance, infrastructure for Americans.

Earlier this year, Joe Biden blocked major pipelines, ditched oil drilling projects, and banned new oil and gas leases on federal lands in line with the Democrat's green agenda.

The Biden administration is also aggressively pushing their Build Back Better Act which includes several green energy handouts and tax on methane emissions.

Meanwhile, the Treasury Department issued guidance saying the United States would oppose multilateral development banks’ involvement in fossil fuel projects.

Moore and the other financial officers argued such a move would help and develop “Chinese interests.”

“Woke capitalists and globalist actors have been using the guise of climate change to press for anti-American reforms that reduce our country’s competitiveness against hostile nations like Russia and China,” Moore said in a statement.

“As a result, in less than a year, our country has gone from energy independence to having a President who is begging OPEC and Russia to pump more oil,” he continued.

“It’s time we fight back to protect our economies, jobs, tax revenue, and energy independence from these increasing attacks on our critical industries.”

Major financial players like JPMorgan Chase, Citi Bank, and Bank of America have committed to environmental goals.

Last week, Neon Nettle reported Biden paid a highly-publicized visit to a General Motors-owned electric car factory shortly after the company paid a White House-linked lobbyist almost $160,000.

The lobbyist is Jeff Ricchetti — the brother of Steve Ricchetti, who serves as counselor to Biden and works as chief of staff to the then-vice president from 2013 to 2017.

Jeff Ricchetti has earned $160,000 from General Motors - a company that has received an unusual level of attention from the White House.

The payments were unearthed in an investigation by Matthew Foldi of The Washington Free Beacon.

America's Everyday Rebellion Gathers Momentum With Each New Outrage From the Left

America's Everyday Rebellion Gathers Momentum With Each New Outrage From the Left

AP Photo/Andrew Harnik

It’s the day before Thanksgiving — that most American of holidays — and among much else, I am deeply thankful for Judge Daniel Green of Cole County in the Show-Me State.

Judge Green struck a blow for liberty and republican government earlier this week when he wrote:

“This case is about whether Missouri’s Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) regulations can abolish representative government in the creation of public health laws, and whether it can authorize closure of a school or assembly based on the unfettered opinion of an unelected official. This court finds it cannot.”

In two wonderfully succinct sentences, Judge Green thus captured the essence of the battle between the aspiring totalitarians on the American Left using COVID and public health to displace government by the consent of the governed and the legions of Americans across the political spectrum who have had their fill of being told to shut up and do what we’re told because we’re all bigots, oppressors, and reactionaries.

Missouri officials occasioned Green’s ruling by imposing unreasonable mask mandates on indoor and outdoor gatherings even as the vaccination rate continued to go up and the state’s per capita death rate due to COVID was 0.006.

Judge Green’s decision is a small but notable development in a gathering rebellion of everyday Americans against government by decree brought to a head by bureaucrats and little dictators in public office hiding behind the protection of public health.

Another blow was struck this past week when Robert Tyler and Advocates for Faith & Freedom filed suit in the Superior Court of California for Orange County seeking to force Gov. Gavin Newsom to comply with state law and withdraw his long-running COVID-based state of emergency.

Plaintiffs in the suit — including the Orange County Board of Education, Children’s Health Defense, and Children’s Health Defense-California Chapter — declare in their opening paragraph:

“This action seeks to restore the checks and balances on which American democracy depends. Governor Gavin Newsom eliminated those checks and balances during the spring of 2020 when he declared a state of emergency related to the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

“That may have been necessary at the time, to respond to a virus that caught government officials off-guard. But a state of emergency cannot last forever, especially when the government has used the emergency to exercise vast powers, including an unprecedented “stay at home” order through which the government told 40 million Californians what they could and could not do for 18 months.”

The suit notes that Newsom conceded in June that citizens of California had “successfully curbed the spread,” an admission which requires that the state of emergency no longer exists and thus must be withdrawn.

At the federal level, so many suits were filed challenging President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandates that judicial officials were moved to consolidate 34 of them into one court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Among the 34 is one filed by the attorneys general of a dozen states challenging the Biden decree that healthcare facilities that do not require employees to be vaccinated will lose federal funding.

“The lawsuit argues that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) shot mandate on facilities that receive federal funding for treating patients exceeds the agency’s statutory authority and violates the Social Security Act’s prohibition on regulations that control the hiring and firing of health care workers. It also violates multiple federal laws, the Spending Clause, the Anti-Commandeering Doctrine and the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution,” according to Liberty Counsel, the Florida-based public interest law firm that has taken a leading role in bringing suit on behalf of members of the U.S. military, civilian federal employees and thousands of private sector healthcare workers.

“The Vaccine Mandate causes grave danger to vulnerable persons whom Medicare and Medicaid were designed to protect—the poor, sick, and elderly—by forcing the termination of millions of ‘healthcare heroes,’” the lawsuit claims.

The mandate violates the Tenth Amendment of the Constitution by seeking “to commandeer state-employee surveyors to become enforcers of CMS’s unlawful attempt to federalize national vaccine policy and override the States’ police power on matters of health and safety,” the suit continues.

Another case was filed on behalf of 35 Navy SEALS who seek a religious exemption from the vaccine mandate by First Liberty Institute, the Plano, Texas-based public interest law firm that specializes in religious liberty litigation.

“The fact that the government has not granted a single religious exemption from the vaccine mandate shows that the Biden Administration does not care about religious freedom.  Instead, this appears to be an attempted ideological purge.  Forcing a service member to choose between their faith and serving their country is abhorrent to the Constitution and America’s values,” said Mike Berry, First Liberty’s General Counsel.

“After all these elite warriors have done to defend our freedoms, the Navy is now threatening their careers, families, and finances.  It’s appalling and it has to stop before any more harm is done to our national security,” Berry added.

It will take time for the legal system to process this issue, but it is difficult to see how the outcome would continue to give the green light to the mandates. But it’s not just the mandates at work here in prompting the Everyday Rebellion.

Progressive prosecutors who free chronic murderers, rapists, and sexual predators to continue preying on innocent Americans are also fueling the movement. Consider Darrell Brooks, who is charged with multiple murders in the Waukesha, Wisc. Christmas Parade attack.

Brooks has a lengthy criminal record, but a Left-wing prosecutor agreed to a minimal bail a month ago after he allegedly ran over his child’s mother with his Ford Escape, the same vehicle seen mowing down parade participants, including multiple seniors, little children, and spectators.

George Soros and other wealthy Leftist luminaries have spent hundreds of millions of dollars to put dozens of such prosecutors in office around the country. And every time one of them frees another murderer, rapist, or sex offender, more everyday Americans say they’ve had enough. The proliferation of organized mass shoplifting in malls and downtown shopping districts does the same thing.

Then there is the Kyle Rittenhouse prosecution. Rittenhouse was clearly defamed by legions of mainstream media figures, and he is almost certainly headed toward litigation that will hold them accountable, just as Nicholas Sandmann was able to do as a result of his defamation following an incident at the Lincoln Memorial.

When Rittenhouse starts winning multi-million dollar settlements, many more such suits will be filed by others emboldened by his success, and sooner or later, the Left-wing ideologues who have turned the mainstream media into the propaganda arm of the progressives who dominate the Democratic Party will have to start looking for new jobs.

Considering John Malone’s recent revelation that there are no “actual journalists” working at CNN, the ideologues who ruined Ted Turner’s formerly admirable creation may be hitting the pavement sooner than they think.

Yes, it’s the day before Thanksgiving and everyday Americans do indeed have much for which to be thankful.

The Voter Tsunami Begins to Drown Democrats

Newt Gingrich The Voter Tsunami Begins to Drown Democrats

The Voter Tsunami Begins to Drown Democrats

Democrats have now had three weeks of tsunami warnings, and the Nancy Pelosi dictatorship seems determined to force through trillions of dollars of additional spending and a host of radical woke policies – even though the American people are screaming, “no!”

By Newt Gingrich

Big earthquakes offshore in Alaska or Chile lead Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders to worry about tsunamis coming from thousands of miles away. People take precautions. They move to higher ground. Faced with a real threat, Hawaiians prepare to make major changes to survive.

Apparently, Hawaiians are more interested in survival than Washington Democrats.

Democrats have now had three weeks of tsunami warnings, and the Nancy Pelosi dictatorship seems determined to force through trillions of dollars of additional spending and a host of radical woke policies – even though the American people are screaming, “no!”

Big government socialism and woke radical policies – and incompetence on issues such as inflation, crime, controlling the border, leaving Afghanistan, and solving logistics problems – are all adding up to an easily repudiated mess. Fed up Americans have a simple battle cry: “It just doesn’t work.”

You may think I am exaggerating about a tsunami-like anti-Democrat wave, but consider recent evidence.

On Nov. 2 Glenn Youngkin led an entire team to victory in Virginia. The team included Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears, a Jamaica-born naturalized citizen who served in the U.S. Marine Corps and loves America. It also included Attorney General Jason Miyares, the son of Cuban refugees who escaped the oppression of communism. This diverse, impressive Republican team swept Virginia and carried with it a new Republican majority in the legislature. For Pelosi and the Democrats, this was earthquake No. 1.

A few miles north, in New Jersey, Ed Durr Jr., an independent truck driver, defeated New Jersey State Senate President Stephen Sweeney in one of the biggest upsets in modern politics. Durr spent only $2,300. Clearly, the voters were saying: “not Sweeney.” Consider that Sweeney got almost 59 percent of the vote four years earlier. This was earthquake No. 2.

And there were more quakes to follow.

On the opposite side of the country, in Seattle, a Republican won the city attorney’s race for the first time in more than 30 years.

In a state legislative special election in San Antonio, Texas, a Republican won in a 73 percent Latino district.

A few days later Democratic Texas State Legislator Ryan Guillen switched parties, saying: “After much consideration and prayer with my family, I feel that my fiscally conservative, pro-business, and pro-life values are no longer in-step with the Democrat Party of today, and I am proudly running as a Republican to represent House District 31.”

This week in South Carolina, Republicans had solid victories in municipal elections. In Georgetown, Carol Jayroe became the first Republican ever elected mayor. In Columbia, Republican Daniel Rickenmann was elected mayor in a county that went 68 percent for Biden.

Nationally, the polling has been increasingly bad for Democrats. A generic ballot is a question of whether you are more likely to vote for one party or the other.

On Nov. 7, the Suffolk University/USA Today poll showed an 8 percent generic advantage for Republicans (46-38) in congressional voting and 38 percent approval for President Biden. On Nov. 11, the ABC News/Washington Post poll showed a 10 percent Republican generic advantage (51-41). On Nov. 16, Rasmussen reported a 13-point generic gap (51-38).

As Rasmussen reported:

“The 13-point edge for Republicans in the latest poll is larger than Democrats enjoyed at any time during the 2018 midterm campaign, due both to greater GOP partisan intensity and a wide advantage among independents. While 89% of Republican voters say they would vote for their own party’s candidate, only 77% of Democrats would vote for the Democratic candidate. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 48% would vote Republican and 26% would vote Democrats, with another 17% undecided.”

In less than two weeks, the generic ballot has moved against the Democrats in every poll. But, of course, in the Pelosi dictatorship none of these results in real elections or polls have had any impact. Democrats seem more worried about being kneecapped by Dictator Pelosi today than being thrown out by voters next year.

Furthermore, the threat to all Democrats is compounded with President Biden at 38 percent approval and Vice President Harris down to 28 percent approval. (And anyone who listens to the 10 hours of her laughing will understand that she is likely to go even lower when her supporters hear how whacked she sounds).

The power of the emerging anti-Democrat tsunami coming this early creates huge problems for the Democratic Party. The scale of the tsunami will encourage Democrats to retire (note Sen. Patrick Leahy announced his retirement just this week). We will have to see if Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema can withstand the psychological pressure of their radical members and the constant harassment of left-wing activists invading bathrooms, surrounding cars and boats, etc.

At the same time, the wave will encourage Republicans to run everywhere, at every level. (If a little-known truck driver can spend $2,300 to beat the most powerful state politician in New Jersey, any Republican can win anywhere.) In the process, Democratic fundraising will get harder, and Republican fundraising will get easier.

Still, with the tide receding, Pelosi charges toward the beach – and the lemmings (replacing the donkey as the symbol of the Democratic Party) march in lockstep behind her, toward the coming tsunami.
