Ron DeSantis Gets Labeled 'Worse Than Trump'

Ron DeSantis Gets Labeled 'Worse Than Trump'

AP Photo/Wilfredo Lee

You knew it was coming. It was only a matter of time before the next big Republican after Donald Trump morphed into the preeminent evil of our time. That honor has been bestowed upon Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, whose effective leadership and penchant for staying on the offensive have rattled the left and their media allies.

Samantha Bee went on a wild rant yesterday, labeling DeSantis as ‘worse than Trump and in the process, managed to show where the left is headed next.

Let’s begin by noting that nothing in that clip can be called comedy. I thought Bee was a comedian, and her show, at least ostensibly, is supposed to be about making people laugh. Instead, she’s become another Stephen Colbert, by which she seeks “clapter” for wildly partisan rants instead of actually being what she claims to be.

I’ll also note that this is just deranged. If you want an example of what happens when people make politics their religion, allowing it to stand in for meaning and purpose, this is a perfect one. Bee clearly has nothing else guiding her. If she did, she wouldn’t be so hysterical about someone like DeSantis. Yes, he’s unique among most Republicans in that he doesn’t just react but is always pushing forward to win conservative and cultural battles. But he’s clearly not Hitler and acting like that strikes me as pure delusion.

But moving past the idiocy of what she’s saying, the strategy here is deliberate and fully expected. The only caveat is that perhaps it wasn’t expected to happen this quickly. This is what Democrats always do. Geroge W. Bush is Hitler until Mitt Romney comes along. Then, Bush is the harmless guy who paints who they wish all Republicans were like. Once Trump came along, Romney was rehabbed. Now that DeSantis is the frontrunner for 2024 in many people’s minds, and clearly, the one Democrats fear the most, he must become worse than the Republican who came before him. In this case, that’s Trump, who they will never love, but they will at least soften enough to claim he wasn’t as bad as the current guy.

That’s the playbook. Here’s another example.

The irony is that this will only help DeSantis. Republicans tend to rally around those who are attacked the most, and with DeSantis doing something awesome in Florida on a near-daily basis, there’s plenty of fodder for the left to gnash teeth over.

Communism Isn't Coming to America, It's Here

Daily Dose of Downey: Communism Isn't Coming to America, It's Here

(CCP)

Better Dead Than Red

A lefty friend acquaintance asked me why I write about the “nonsense” of pinko-Americans trying to take over the country. He/it suggested I was just trying to “rile up the rednecks” for clicks. Actually, I not only believe 100% that it could happen, I think it’s already begun.

Which of these things isn’t true? I believe they are all accurate,

  • Progressives have taken over the schools at every education level
  • Big Tech (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) silences those that disagree with their narrative
  • Progressive mayors allow antifa and Black Lives Matter (BLM) to riot at will
  • Progressive prosecutors allow antifa and BLM to skate despite the carnage they cause
  • High-ranking Democrat politicians deny that antifa/BLM armies exist
  • Progressive prosecutors are coming down hard on Jan. 6 rioters even though they have caused far less damage than Antifa and BLM
  • The Democrats stole the election
  • Most of the media propagates lefty lies and denies the truth if it hurts their narrative
  • The Left is constantly chipping away at the Second Amendment because they know they can’t completely take over until it’s dissolved
  • A pandemic gutted the world and WE paid for the research that created it
  • Leftists are defunding the police everywhere
  • The FBI has become the Democrats’ Gestapo
  • Democrats have released thousands of criminals and repealed bail laws, resulting in the worst crime wave in decades

What did I miss? Please post it in the comments for the follow-up article.

One would have to be more than blind to not see the damage the leftists have caused in roughly six months of Gropey Joe’s reign. One would have to be a part of it, or at least down with the clowns creating it, and pretend they don’t see the chaos. Or, one would have to believe the Pravda-like CNN.

Sanctify Thyself, Downey

Before I continue, I must be honest. I used to be a Democrat. Of course I was–I’m from a family of what is now three generations of union auto workers. Vilify me in the comments, I deserve it, then find it in your Christian hearts to forgive me.

Some people think I’m still a lib. Understandable–just check out my profile pic. I look like I was kicked out of Duran Duran. I’m on a comedy stage wearing a fake fur coat and drinking (while working). I wear the lib uniform to this day, but now I THINK.

Wake-Up Call

With the help of a conservative friend, I smelled the coffee and then I woke up. I passed the same knowledge onto my girlfriend, who is 100% Puerto Rican. She was a Hillary supporter. Now we don’t miss a Trump rally on Long Island. We have eight Trump flags. We are both now “awake” but in the righteous, pro-American way.

Back to the Communist Threat

Communism is rearing its ugly red head faster than we can hoard ammo. Gropey Joe Biden spews Marxism whenever his handlers AOC allows him to speak. The politicians push Marxism, the Left applauds, and the media pretends it isn’t happening.

The Left has created the worst crime wave since the ’70s. They let criminals out of jail and got rid of bail laws to keep them out, all in the name of fighting “systemic racism.” They have to call it that to keep their voters on their side. But what happens when you stop arresting people? They commit more crimes. Thus the Dems are allowing black people to slaughter each other so the commies can say, “Look at all the gun crimes. Guns have to go.”

Then they blame “white supremacists” for the crimes, again to play the racism card. The leftists are actually sacrificing black lives so that they can go after guns. They NEED the Second Amendment gone before they can achieve total victory. It’s all a part of the commie playbook. Every move now is to kill the Second Amendment. We can’t let it get that far. This is not a time to sit back and say, “It’ll never happen here.”

We need to vote for real Republicans at every level. Attend school board meetings even if you don’t have kids in school. You’re paying school taxes, so you are allowed to attend. Hit them at the school level first. That’s the future. Volunteer to be a poll watcher. Voter fraud is why we are in this situation in the first place. Buy ammo, just in case. American exceptionalism is real, but so are the Bolsheviks. Did you think there would ever come a time when apparatchiks like “The Squad” would be “legally” elected to office? The commies are using democracy, or their cheating version of it, to take over. Once they are in place, they will be harder to remove than bed bugs.

TROUBLE FOR DEMS IN BATTLEGROUND STATES

TROUBLE FOR DEMS IN BATTLEGROUND STATES

BY JOHN HINDERAKER IN 2022 ELECTIONPOLL

Earlier this month, the National Republican Senatorial Committee and the Republican Governors’ Association employed OnMessage Inc. to conduct a poll of 26 states where important Senate and gubernatorial races are shaping up in 2022. The poll included 1,200 likely voters, but it is not clear how those voters were distributed among the 26 states. Of the states that were surveyed, ten were classified as red, nine as purple, and seven as blue. The red states included Florida and Ohio, while the only large blue state surveyed was Illinois. Minnesota was among the blue states included in the poll.

Given the distribution of red, purple and blue states, this poll may skew to the right. Nevertheless, even if we discount conservative answers by a few points, the results are striking.

Generic Congressional ballots usually favor Democrats, and if the generic poll is even, it portends an excellent year for Republicans. Here, the GOP is up 43%-37% on the generic ballot, with Republicans leading among Independents by 34%-23%, with 23% undecided.

Voters in these battleground states think the U.S. is on the wrong track by 59% to 34%, a finding that bodes ill for the party in power. Strikingly, Independents think we are on the wrong track by a huge 62%-28% margin.

This poll tested the general images of the parties with voters. It found the Republican party at a net -1, 46% favorable and 47% unfavorable (but +2 with Independents). The Democrats were deeply underwater at a net -13, 41% favorable and 54% unfavorable. Significantly, the Democrats are net -22 with Independents.

There were a number of questions on the Democrats’ money-printing schemes. Happily, most voters don’t seem to be fooled. By 50% to 39%, respondents said that America can’t afford the Biden administration’s proposed increases in federal spending, as opposed to the claim that such spending is necessary. Independents oppose the spending by 51%-35%. And, by 51%-45%, respondents blame the current spike in inflation on Joe Biden. That percentage will grow.

Not surprisingly, the Democrats are in trouble on immigration, as respondents blame Joe Biden for the current jump in illegal immigration by 56%-40%. Here again, Independents’ answers are critical, as Republicans and Democrats split along tribal lines. But Independents blame Biden by a whopping 60% to 36% margin.

The survey included some questions on the recent Israel/Hamas conflict. Middle Eastern policy used to be more or less bipartisan, but it has become polarized like everything else. In total, 43% of respondents said that they sympathized with the Israelis in the recent conflict, with 11% saying they sympathize with the Palestinians. The partisan breakdown is striking: Republicans are on the Israelis’ side by 70% to 3%, while Democrats favor the Palestinians by 28% to 14%. (Other respondents said “both” or “neither.”)

In response to another question, Democrats said that Israel is an “occupier and a colonizer using modern military power to attack defenseless Palestinian civilians to steal indigenous Palestinian land” by a narrow 32% to 31% margin. In other words, the Democrats are as crazy as we keep saying they are. Happily, Independents side with Republicans on this one. By 58% to 14%, Independents reject the above “occupier” narrative in favor of the view that “Israel is a sovereign nation which has the right and the obligation to defend itself from terrorists intent on killing civilians.” On this and many other issues, hard-core Democrats are increasingly in a boat by themselves.

The poll’s findings on the Wuhan virus are interesting, too. Respondents were asked whether they agree with the proposition that “Democrats and the media have been far too weak on China by taking the Chinese Government’s propaganda as fact and calling American citizens racist for suggesting that the virus leaked from the Chinese Virology lab in Wuhan, instead of looking for the true origins of the virus that has killed hundreds of thousands of Americans.” Despite a hysterical effort by the press, the Democratic Party and social media platforms to suppress any suggestion of a lab leak, most people have figured out that something is going on here. By 55% to 29%, respondents agreed with the above proposition.

Finally, we come to Critical Race Theory, the racist ideology to which the Democratic Party is now irrevocably committed. Respondents were asked whether they agree with the idea that “White Americans are inherently racist whether they know it or not because they benefit from the American culture of systematic racism and white privilege.” The extraordinary thing, in my opinion, is that Democrats actually buy that bulls**t by 55% to 39%. These people, I take it, are masochists suffering from psychological problems not suitable for discussion on a family web site.

Happily, this is one more issue where Independents align firmly with Republicans. By 65% to 30%, they reject the “white privilege” hypothesis. On this issue, Independents may be even stronger than Republicans, who reject “white privilege” and “unconscious racism” by 63% to 33%.

Here is another one: respondents were asked whether they agree that “The United States was founded on the practice of slavery and white supremacy which continues to this day.” You might think that no one could be so ignorant as to agree with that claim, but “strong Democrats,” by an astonishing 67% to 28%, subscribe to what can only be termed vicious anti-Americanism. But here again, they are in a boat by themselves: Republicans reject this revisionist twisting of our history by 68% to 27%, and Independents do so by an even wider margin, 76% to 20%. The Democrats are determined to sink or swim with Critical Race Theory, and it looks to me like they are going to sink.

Any poll can convey only limited information: what a specific group of people said in response to specific questions at a moment in time. But evidence is rapidly accumulating that the Democrats, unless they can find a way to dramatically change the political landscape, are in deep trouble as we look toward next year’s elections.

GOP Filibuster Highlights Democrats’ “Big Lie”

GOP Filibuster Highlights Democrats’ “Big Lie”

GOP Filibuster Highlights Democrats’ “Big Lie”

As today’s GOP filibuster to block debate on the For The People Act causes Democrats to scream, it also gives rise to their own “Big Lie.”  For the last six months, Democrats having been pushing the narrative that HR1 is in response to Donald Trump’s “Big Lie” that the election was stolen from him.

They have been shouting that democracy cannot be reestablished until we “restore voter’s rights” and “end voter suppression” by the Big Bad Meanies in Republican-held legislations across the country. Hogwash!

This bill has been swirling the toilet since 2019 and has nothing to do with the 2020 Election, Donald Trump or the mantle they hang around his neck: The Big Lie.

In today’s Washington Post’s article, they contradict themselves and support my assertion in two compelling points:

“It came after Democrat after Democrat delivered warnings about the dire state of American democracy, blaming former president Donald Trump for undermining its foundations by challenging the 2020 election results, which prompted his supporters in numerous state legislatures to pass new laws rolling back ballot access.”

followed later on with:

“Republicans, however, exhibited little discomfort in their blanket opposition to the Democratic voting bill — largely written before the 2020 election and goes well beyond election access standards to federally dictate new rules on campaign financing, government ethics, congressional redistricting and much more.”

So how can it both be a response to Donald Trump’s “Big Lie” AND largely written BEFORE the damned election??  As they say on Sesame Street, One of These Things is Not Like the Others!

So for all of Chuck Schumer’s pandering today, his remarks just remind us that if his lips are a-flappin’, he’s a lyin’!

In the clip above, Schumer breathlessly recounts how Republican’s “voted against starting debate, STARTING DEBATE!” on this Bill they ignominious call For The People Act.  I think I’m going to start a new acronym.  I was going to call his pontificating a bunch of BS, but I think we need to add BL to our lexicon these days.  Short for Big Lie.  So I’ll just say he’s full of BL.

The debate was started over two years ago when John Sarbanes introduced the For the People Act in 2019.  Much like the current iteration, The House passed the bill on March 8, 2019 by a party-line vote of 234–193. And similarly died at the hands of Mitch McConnel in the Republican held Senate at the time.  God how that must have pissed them off today!  Cocaine Mitch won as both majority and minority leader!!??  That Sumbitch!

But the fact that this piece of legislation has been bandied about for over two years doesn’t fit the narrative that Donald Trump’s “Big Lie” is the cause of all their consternation and they can rightly suppose that most American’s have no idea that this has been debated that long.  The For the People Act is and has been Democrat’s endeavor to cling to power in perpetuity.

As Senator Ted Cruz so rightly calls it, this piece of legislation is better called The Corrupt Politicians Act!

I have to say, it is with some sense of schadenfreude that Vice President Kamala Harris rode in on her big white broom pony to save the day on this.  At the expense of all her other obligations (LIKE THE BORDER!!) she neglected them instead to oversee the failure of this???  What a loser.

“It’s especially sweet that Senate Republicans filibustered the Democrats’ For the People Act with Vice President Kamala Harris presiding since among the many jobs given to her by President Joe Biden was to oversee the passage of the bill.”

As they say the quiet part out loud in this article:

“The bill would overhaul campaign finance laws, ban voter ID requirements, extend early voting days, reform redistricting, and enable ballot harvesting.”

According to yesterday’s release of Monmouth University’s recent polling,

“[F}ully 4 in 5 Americans (80%) support requiring voters to show photo identification in order to cast a ballot.”

And THAT is why Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema oppose blowing up the filibuster for this piece of crap.  Voters will have their head’s on a pike come next election cycle if they allow this garbage to get enacted.

The filibuster has long been called the soul of the Senate.  It has been watered down over the years, most recently in 2013 and 2017 as both political parties took aim at the other to get their way over executive branch nominations and judicial nominations respectively.  But the thrust of filibuster is to protect our country from the passions of the moment until cooler heads prevail.  And there is no more passionate debate we have these days than both sides screaming about “The Big Lie!”

Biden Overplays His Hand and Gets Burned for It

Biden Overplays His Hand and Gets Burned for It

President Joe Biden will not be walking back his surprise announcement on Thursday that he wouldn’t sign the bipartisan trillion-dollar infrastructure bill he had just agreed to support without his multi-trillion-dollar domestic spending boondoggle being considered “in tandem” as part of the reconciliation process.

Republicans were livid, although one wonders why they didn’t get assurances that Biden wouldn’t doublecross them in this way. As it is, Biden has created a firestorm on Capitol Hill that threatens to blow up the bipartisan deal. And while White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki tried to soften the blow, the essence of Biden’s comment remains operative.

Psaki said it was the GOP’s own fault they didn’t get the proper assurances that Biden wouldn’t hold the bipartisan bill hostage in order to pass the rest of his agenda. That may be true, but Biden and Democratic legislators sorta forgot to mention that point during negotiations.

One unwitting White House official tried to leave the possibility for negotiations on the dual track issue open. He even hinted that a clarification was coming. It didn’t work out well.

Politico:

With Republicans threatening to abandon the deal, Steve Ricchetti, one of Biden’s lead negotiators, who a day earlier had been credited by the president for his efforts shepherding the deal, scrambled to contain the fallout on Capitol Hill. Both he and Louisa Terrell, the White House top congressional liaison, told the Senators involved in negotiations that Biden was enthusiastic about the deal and would soon hit the road to tout its benefits as well as the merits of bipartisanship.

According to two sources familiar with his efforts, Ricchetti told Republicans that the White House was going to clarify the comments.

A White House official disputed the notion that Ricchetti suggested Biden may have misspoke — an impression that those two sources said was left. The official said that the president’s team anticipated dustups during the early phases of the process and noted that White House press secretary Jen Psaki several times during Friday’s briefing took a softer tone than Biden did on Thursday.

In essence, Biden caved to the Left by playing it this way. Politically, it was deft of him to finesse the Left for all those weeks while the bipartisan package was being negotiated and then put the hammer down when the legislation was agreed to. Now, the Left is more likely to get everything they want: climate change legislation, Medicare expansion, and many more radical, transformative changes to the government and the nation.

RecommendedRepublicans Fall for Biden’s Infrastructure ‘Bait and Switch’

Biden’s major problem now is getting the two wayward Democrats — Senators Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema — back on board for a run at passing reconciliation.

The president personally spoke to Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) on Friday — the top negotiator for Democrats — and told her he would “fight to pass the Bipartisan Agreement, as he committed to the group,” according to a White House readout of the call. The statement was careful to note that Biden had mentioned his support for the reconciliation bill while standing alongside the group of senators during a press availability outside of the White House Thursday.

Democrats are confident that the bipartisan deal is still good to go in the Senate, but that may be whistling past the graveyard. As long as the deal had a bipartisan label, there was a chance that 10 or 11 GOP senators would sign on to it and allow it to come to the floor of the Senate.

But Biden has blown up bipartisanship both for his administration and perhaps far into the future. He has fatally injured his relations with the Republican Senate that he may very well be forced to face starting in January 2023 as a majority.

And his “great bipartisan achievement” will almost certainly end up in the congressional trash bin.

Vaxxports and the Emerging Police State

Vaxxports and the Emerging Police State

AP Photo/Rogelio V. Solis

I live in Canada, a putative liberal democracy. But I cannot gather and demonstrate in public without the prospect of being arrested. I cannot worship in a church without fear of being fined and led off to jail. I cannot enter certain institutions and public places without wearing a mask. I cannot travel without finding myself levied and quarantined. And I will become a second-class citizen should the vaccine passport, which I understand the government is considering, ever become law, depriving me of the rights and freedoms I once took for granted. I am living in a police state in everything but name, likely to consolidate and become a “papers please!” regime should the government follow through.

Canada is by no means unique in this respect. The exclusionary device known as a vaxxport is being bruited in other countries as well, and it has already been introduced in Israel. Once we enter a “papers please!” world, the great, historically short-lived experiment in democratic governance, the gift of the Judeo-Christian West to mankind, will be over. We have already begun to lose our essential “Lockean” liberties—freedom of expression and worship, right of assembly, personal privacy, property rights—and now find ourselves facing the reality of existence in a Hobbesian world where life, to rephrase the adage slightly, is nasty, brutish, and tightly controlled.

The police state seems to be the natural political order, always ready to emerge from the shadows and insensibly replace the rare and fragile—and unnatural—cultural adventure we call “rule of law” and the concept of individual liberty. The inroads are already deep—the corruption of language (aka political correctness), mass surveillance, the tampering with the electoral process, pervasive censorship—preparing us to accept what was, and is, a COVID dictatorship on the pretext of public safety.

The vaxxport is only the latest installment in the march of insurrectionary politics, creating two classes of citizens, those with basic social privileges and those who have been stripped of them. Neither class is “free,” of course. The former class consists of compliant wards of the state and the latter, an ever-diminishing group, assumes the status of untouchables.

Jean-Paul Sartre’s famous aphorism, “Man is condemned to be free,” makes sense within the framework of Existentialist philosophy, “because,” to complete his phrase, “once thrown into the world, he is responsible for everything he does.” Sartre is recycling the Heideggerian notion of Geworfenheit, of “being thrown” into a world of arbitrary demands that need to be met and resolved on the level of the person. The fact is, however, that man is condemned to be bound to what Plato called “political necessity,” subject to “the laws against impiety,” as he put it in The Laws. The state, or polis, takes precedence over the individual, whose impulses cannot be trusted. Such is the real “condemnation,” to which the individual is perennially susceptible—and agreeable. Freedom is a burden difficult to bear and all-too-willingly surrendered, owing to natural lassitude, indifference, and forgetfulness.

RecommendedNew East Berlin Alert—Oregon Requiring Vaccine Passports

This is what we see happening all across the West where the “great experiment” in individual liberties and personal autonomy was valiantly conducted against the grain, so to speak, and which, except for a few scattered enclaves, is now being phased out by a Hobbesian pandemic known as the “Great Reset”—in other words, a reversion to a natural state of affairs characterized by threat, coercion, and autocratic domination. “I suspect this is the most dangerous time in history,” writes my colleague and occasional columnist Diana Sitek, “because of the scale of the coming tyranny. There is no safe haven.” (Personal communication.) Freedom is unnatural, a battle against the principle of civilizational entropy, that can be maintained only by the perpetual struggle to make the unnatural natural—”A Republic, if you can keep it.” The alternative is “papers please!”, if we can stomach it.

Resistance is the only option.

BIDEN HAS NOTHING TO OFFER ON THE EXPLOSIVE ISSUE OF VIOLENT CRIME [UPDATED]

BIDEN HAS NOTHING TO OFFER ON THE EXPLOSIVE ISSUE OF VIOLENT CRIME [UPDATED]

BY PAUL MIRENGOFF IN CRIMEDEMOCRATSJOE BIDENPOLICING

It’s now clear even to Joe Biden that the rise in violent crime poses a political problem for Democrats. The vote count in yesterday’s New York City mayoral primary reinforces that realization.

Thus, Biden has decided to address talk about violent crime.

Biden is in a bind. The normal response to a violent crime wave is the one he embraced in the 1990s and that worked so well — more policing and tougher sentencing. But Biden, having just finished apologizing to the Democratic base for this embrace, can’t go there again. He can’t even advocate backing away from policies that constrain the police and put criminals back on the street.

Thus, Biden will resort to the only item in the Democrats’ toolbox he can try to pass off as an anti-crime measure — gun control. The Washington Post quotes White House press secretary Jen Psaki as follows:

The president feels a lot — a great deal of the crime we’re seeing — is as a result of gun violence. You can expect he’ll speak to that and his commitment to continuing to address gun violence and gun safety in the country.

Well, yeah, a great deal of violent crime is the result of gun violence. But that doesn’t mean speaking about guns will reduce the violence. Nor does it mean that passing more gun control legislation would do so. Nor, even if it could, would that effect take hold in the short term.

When Eric Dreiband, then an Assistant U.S. Attorney General, went to Minneapolis to meet with low-income minority group members fearful of rampaging gun violence, they didn’t ask him for more gun laws. They asked for more policing.

Of course. These folks may be poor, but they’re not stupid.

Eric Adams’ seemingly successful campaign for mayor of New York City didn’t neglect mentioning gun control. He is a Democrat, after all.

But Adams’ signature promise was more policing. By all accounts I’ve read, this theme is what lifted him above his more liberal rivals.

In the absence of effective policing, citizens must protect themselves. That’s the main reason why gun sales reportedly are way up these days.

Thus, quite apart from the fact that gun control legislation fails to address the real drivers of the violent crime surge — less policing and more criminals on the street — it may, on its terms, be an unpopular response.

I don’t want to leave the impression that Biden is ignoring the issue of policing. He and his fellow Democrats are pushing for modification of the “qualified immunity” doctrine that protects police officers to some degree from lawsuits.

The likely effect of this legislation would be to discourage proactive policing of the kind that a few decades ago helped slash the amount of violent crime. Why actively police where the criminals are if the liberal mayor won’t back you and you have lost important protection from being sued?

The Democratic left would like to abolish the police. Few Democratic politicians advocate going that far. Instead, they favor discouraging interaction between police officers and residents of high-crime (mostly Black) neighborhoods. If you can’t abolish the police, neutering it is the next best thing.

In sum, the Biden’s embrace of left-wing ideology leaves him and his party vulnerable and stranded on the issue of crime, even as that issue moves to the political forefront. All Biden and the Dems can do is hope that the wave of violent crime recedes.

That’s not likely to happen. Last year, the Dems deluded themselves into believing that the crime wave was due to the pandemic and/or unrest following the death of George Floyd. Now, they admit otherwise, as the Washington Post shows in this article.

The Post quotes Cleveland’s Democratic mayor Frank Jackson who says that violent crime “is going to get worse.” In Jackson’s view, “there’s nothing that’s going to be bring this down in the near future.”

Certainly, nothing the Democrats support will bring violent crime down in the near future. A surge in proactive policing coupled with an end to releasing criminals probably would. But these policies are off the table for Joe Biden and his party.

UPDATE: Late this afternoon, Biden presented his ideas for curbing violent crime. As expected, he emphasized gun control. As discussed above, gun control measures cannot be expected to reduce gun violence.

Biden also proposed stepping up programs to help recently-released convicts. There is no shortage of programs for rehabilitating cons and ex-cons. The lenient sentencing crowd has been touting such programs for years. Yet, violent crime continues to rise.

Here’s a better idea. Stop remanding dangerous criminals back into the community on supervised release, or otherwise. A study in New York City released by the de Blasio administration itself shows that its bail reform/supervised release program has contributed to an increase in crime in the city.

Biden had nothing to say about bail — at least not according to this report.

As for policing, Biden will allow $350 billion in federal stimulus money to be used to fund police departments in areas that have seen an increase in crime. Cities have the option of using funds for that purpose. It’s questionable whether cities where the “defund” movement is strong will take advantage of Biden’s offer, except maybe to hire social workers.

In any case, the money won’t mean much unless the mayors who control our cities, nearly all of whom are Democrats, give police officers the freedom and the incentives to police high crime areas proactively. As noted above, the current incentives all run the other way.

Moreover, any department that reinstitutes proactive policing risks the wrath of the Biden Justice Department. In particular, it risks the wrath of Kristen Clarke. She can be expected to use the shooting of black criminals by the police as grounds for federal intervention through which she can dictate policing practices to local police departments. The policies she dictates won’t include proactive policing.

Maybe Biden’s proposals will reduce violent crime. Maybe violent crime will decrease on its own. In either case, the nation will be better off and Democrats will have one less big issue to worry about.

But if, as I expect, Biden’s proposals have little positive impact and the violent crime wave continues on its present course or intensifies, the Dems will suffer. And now that Biden has acknowledged the problem and offered his solution, he will have nowhere to hide.
