Don's Tuesday Column

THE WAY I SEE IT   by Don Polson  Red Bluff Daily News   11/16/2021

Believing things that just aren’t so

Ronald Reagan said: “The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so.” That applies to much “conventional wisdom.” What differentiates “liberals”—currently “progressives” in politics, culture, education and news media—from believers in the tooth fairy, Easter bunny and Santa Claus, is the arrogant certitude that their (unadmitted) “ignorance” and fantastical thinking should guide and rule us.

It shouldn’t take years to expose fallacies with massive consequences; truths, evident from the start, should take their rightful place in accepted history. Many falsehoods masquerade as reality, demanding our acquiescence in thought and action.

The now-completely-debunked narrative was hatched by Hillary Clinton: The “Trump colluded with Putin’s Russia to influence the 2016 election” hoax, created out of whole cloth solely to deflect from Hillary’s “private email server” scandal.

The indictments issuing from the John Durham investigation into that conspiracy—to besmirch candidate-then-President Donald J. Trump—prove the actual coordination, collusion, conspiracy and diabolical manipulation by anti-Trump parties, including Russians.

Even the Washington Post has had to revise years-old “news” pieces in light of the indictments of Sussman, Danchenko and other unnamed-but-known participants. Partisan hack disseminators of prevarications, MSNBC and CNN, are now exposed frauds.

The “Pied Piper” of the phony collusion story, Adam Schiff, is still taken seriously, soberly when he lies through his teeth that he couldn’t have known that the Steele Dossier, the FISA warrants and, hence, his investigations, the Mueller report and ultimately the entire impeachment charade—were all predicated not on ignorance but on fabrications.

Some left-leaning, but well-meaning, local readers may have noticed accuracies in this column over its 16+ years of calling out the leftist lies about then-President Bush, the Iraq War, the Obama/Schumer/Pelosi charades, the media-enabled Obama scandals, and the Trump-Russia collusion hoax. Good-hearted citizens, look objectively at the news sources you’ve relied upon, now shown to have intentionally, knowingly misled you; consider giving talk radio, Fox News and Newsmax your attention.

The now-discredited sources collectively tell you falsehoods about COVID, vaccine and mask mandates, Biden/Schumer/Pelosi’s “Infrastructure” and “Build Back (Broker) legislation,” 2020 election fraud, the January 6 disturbance (provably not an “insurrection”), the economy, inflation, the Rittenhouse trial, etc.

We’re told that wages are rising, but not the fact that inflation is outpacing those gains (MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle lamented that Democrats’ “great economic story” isn’t getting out). See “Real Wages Declined 0.5% in October Amid Mounting Inflation,” by Brad Polumbo, fee.org, Nov. 11.

“Politicians, including President Biden, are quick to point to the fact that nominal wages are rising—but they're leaving out crucial context.” Wages now lag inflation (B.L.S. chart goes back to Jan. 2019). Starting last March, the “Average Hourly Earnings” dropped below the “Consumer Price Index” and remain below that curve. Gee, what happened pre-April? Biden-crat $trillion+ stimulus. Coincidence?

“[BBB is] a framework that will create millions of jobs, grow the economy, invest in our nation and our people, turn the climate crisis into an opportunity…” Biden said recently. “It’s fiscally responsible…fully paid for.” Unless your news sources dispute such blather, you are being lied to.

“Ivy League Analysis Destroys Biden’s Entire Argument for Multi-Trillion-Dollar ‘Build Back Better’ Spending Plans (B. Polumbo, fee.org, Nov. 6). Wharton School of Business found that the $1.85 trillion proposal actually approaches $4.25 trillion: Tax increases won’t pay for all of it; debt goes up by hundreds of billions of dollars; wages slightly increase but the economy shrinks; business investment and hours worked would decline.

Tax Policy Center, in “Whoops: Biden Spending Bill Would Break His Pledge on No New Taxes on Middle Class,” (Nick Arama, redstate.com, 11/12), finds: 1) Almost a third of middle-income households would pay more taxes in 2022; 2) low-income earners could pay $100; 3) $200,000-500,000 earners could pay $230 more; 4) the higher level for “SALT” (state/local tax) deductions would actually increase after-tax income for $370,000-870,000 earners.

Low- and middle-income classes will pay more taxes—but many wealthy will pay less. As Ludwig von Mises put it, “The government and its chiefs do not have the powers of the mythical Santa Claus. They cannot spend except by taking out of the pockets of some people for the benefit of others.”

Biden’s appointees: dangerous, despotic. FCC appointee Gigi Sohn advocates censoring and destroying conservative talk radio and Fox News by preventing broadband providers from carrying them. Comptroller of the Currency nominee, Saule Omarova—proud alumna of Moscow State University (Russia), winner of the 1988-89 Lenin Personal Academic Scholarship: 1) wants to eliminate oil, coal and natural gas, bankrupting and unemploying millions of energy businesses and workers; 2) “There will be no more private bank accounts, and all of the deposit accounts will be held directly at the Fed.”

Wuhan Flu update: Masks remain scientifically largely ineffective; Biden’s vaccine mandates, and the CDC, ignore natural immunity from recovered COVID patients—they’re provably disingenuous; the mandates are clearly unconstitutional for private businesses; religious exemptions (and natural immunity) are valid but ignored by military and government despots wanting control, ignoring science.

Pharmaceutical commercials must state side effects and risks—urging doctor advice—but not COVID vaccines that are behind many collapses and heart problems (myocarditis) for younger men and boys (FDA Adverse Event Reporting System and numerous world news reports). The “emergency period” is over—why do pharmaceutical companies still have liability waivers?

Most of us—who haven’t had the infection or don’t have allergies to ingredients—should get COVID shots and boosters, but not children unless a doctor advises it. The FDA obstructs COVID treatments. Why?
