Donald Trump vows to take on 'Marxist lunatics and perverts' in Moms for Liberty speech

Donald Trump vows to take on 'Marxist lunatics and perverts' in Moms for Liberty speech

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — Former President Donald Trump slammed the "radical Left" who "hate God" during the Moms for Liberty Summit and urged conservative mothers to be activists on behalf of their children.

Saying he wants to "liberate our children from the Marxist lunatics and perverts who have infested our educational system," Trump vowed a day one executive order to cut federal funding to any school "pushing critical race theory, transgender, and other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content."

He also pledged to "move our education system back to the states," which he said was not a planned part of his remarks, and called out "radical Left socialism" as an "established religion" and a "cult," adding he will direct the Department of Justice to pursue violations of the establishment clause.

"Instead of taking their children to church, they believe in taking children to drag shows," he said. "Instead of teaching them to say their prayers, they teach them to recite their pronouns."

He called to abolish teacher tenure for K-12 schools, enforce curriculum transparency for parents, and implement universal school choice. He also pushed for the direct election of school principals by parents.

"This will be the ultimate form of local control and parental rights," he said.

"They want to take your children away from you and in many cases mutilate your child," he said, promising to root out gender ideology in schools.

"I will declare that a hospital or healthcare provider that participates in the chemical or physical mutilation of a minor youth no longer meets federal health and safety standards," he added. "They will be terminated for receiving federal funds effective immediately."

He said he would seek a bill from Congress to ban child transitions nationally and investigate hospitals and pharmaceutical companies for being involved in pushing the procedures.

To take on liberal colleges and universities, Trump said he would fire all "radical Left" accreditation groups that have allowed colleges to become "dominated by Marxist Maniacs and freaks."

Calling Moms for Liberty a "grassroots juggernaut," Trump told parents who came from around the country, "You have to be an activist nowadays because we're dealing with crazy people."

"They took over our colleges and universities and then infiltrated our grade schools," Trump said. "This left-wing cultural revolution is designed to overthrow the American revolution."

Trump listed several of his accomplishments as president, including the Every Student Succeeds Act to "kill common core" and signing a tax break allowing parents to spend $10,000 per year tax free to send their children to private religious schools. He went after colleges for not protecting free speech, banning critical race theory, and creating the 1776 Commission to promote a "patriotic education."

Calling President Joe Biden an "American hating socialist," Trump said the president has "weaponized law enforcement against his political opposition."

Trump championed Moms for Liberty, which was recently labeled an extremist hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

"Under the Biden Department of Injustice and the FBI, they even targeted you: patriotic parents at school board meetings," Trump said, telling the crowd, "You're not the threat to America; you're the best thing that's ever happened to America."

He vowed to go after government bureaucrats "starting with every corrupt official who targeted Moms for Liberty."

"Don't mess with America's moms," he added. "Our beloved nation is teetering on the edge of tyranny."

Trump lauded the meritocracy in college admissions now that race-based admissions have been blocked by the Supreme Court, which he said would not have happened without his appointments of Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett.

He also took a victory lap on other Supreme Court decisions like student loans and the overturn of Roe v. Wade, saying Republicans need to "learn how to deal with [abortion] and talk about it."

"If you do, you're gonna have a tremendous victory," he said. "And if you don't, you're gonna have some problems."

Trump supports having states decide abortion restrictions, which is a source of disagreement among conservatives.

Trump was introduced by Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), who spoke about his own mother's decision to pull him out of a failing school to send him to a better one. "I'm not here without her sacrifice," he said.

"They oppose you because they believe, truly, that the kids belong to them," he added, referencing former Virginia Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe's gaffe that many believe lost him the gubernatorial election to now-Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R).

The summit, attended by hundreds of mothers from across the country, included breakout sessions to educate and train parents on how to take on issues at their local schools.

Moms for Liberty was founded in 2021 by Tiffany Justice and Tina Descovich and has already gained national prominence in the wake of revelations in schools about critical race theory, secretly transitioning the genders of children, Attorney General Merrick Garland directing the FBI to investigate parents as domestic terrorists, and coronavirus lockdowns that stunted the development of children across the country.

Presidential candidates Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley spoke earlier Friday, while Vivek Ramaswamy and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson are slated to speak Saturday.
