THE OBAMA FACTOR: LAST ROUND

I didn’t mean to make this review of recent Obama statements a series. Events have been in the saddle and they have ridden me. I will of course continue to chronicle Obama’s “deep” thoughts. We will be living with their consequences for a long, long time to come, if we’re lucky, but I’m retiring this series with with this final note.
Although Barack Obama is not a stupid man, he holds many stupid ideas that have proved impervious to experience. If he’s not the Mother of All Stupidity, he may be the son of the Mother of All Stupidity.
One of Obama’s favored reporters is the Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg. Goldberg actually treats Obama’s thoughts as deep, not “deep.” It’s one reason that Obama finds him useful. Goldberg has honored Obama’s “deep” foreign policy thoughts with the appellation “The Obama Doctrine.”.
In his long, long exposition of Obama’s foreign policy, Goldberg relates that Obama “frequently reminds his staff that terrorism takes far fewer lives in America than handguns, car accidents, and falls in bathtubs do.” The implication is that terrorism is to be treated like a public health problem, a “deep” thought that Obama may have derived from Paul Pillar.
This seems to me an observation that might make a good exercise for analysis by a sixth grade social studies class or a seventh grade composition class. Coming from the president of the United States, it is pathetic.
