We American conservatives have had a pretty good idea of what was coming in a Biden administration, and they live lived up to the horrendous expectations we had. Every single appointment and hire for every government department and three-letter agency has been a Leftist Activist, or a DEI hire, right down to the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the US Military. And the so-called Republicans in the Senate have put up little to no opposition, allowing Obama (whose staffers are pulling Biden’s strings) and his activist minions to tear down our great country from border to border and coast to coast. So let’s take a look at all the new rules and regulations passed down Amid Widespread Opposition.
First, a little regulation that was actually handed down during the Obama Dictatorship. That’s the one banning incandescent lightbulbs. In the beginning, stores were allowed to still sell incandescent lightbulbs, and people were allowed to buy them, but they were not allowed to be imported any longer, which is important since most ordinary lightbulbs were made abroad. Some American companies actually continued making them, but they were very expensive and long lead-time. The ostensible reason for this ban was that incandescent lightbulbs were energy-inefficient (whatever that means), so instead of persuading Americans to use something else to light their homes, the government simply banned them. The first substitute type of bulb was a “compact fluorescent” type, which was found to be not only much more expensive, but gave poorer light, and it turned out to actually be toxic! Everyone must remember the times when the government tried to tell us that we had to call a special hazmat crew to sweep up and dispose of a broken bulb! Well, that idea was abandoned, and we were now required to use LED lightbulbs. Which are much more expensive, not suitable for all kinds of lighting, but now the consumer has NO choice. It’s LED lightbulbs or nothing.
The Biden administration has actually begun to implement the Green New Deal in America, and is collaborating with the state of California, which has had a waiver of Federalism for decades, with its fuel-composition mandates, and now the banning of gas-powered cars by 2035. Just last week, the Biden EPA promulgated its new “fuel standards” for gas cars, on the California model. Basically, the fuel-economy standards now in force will not be achievable unless no more gas cars are built and all Americans are forced to buy electric vehicles. California has already banned diesel trucks for transporting containers from ocean terminals, which is ridiculous since the number of such trucks is severely limited and they are on back-order everywhere. And, besides, the charging infrastructure is limited, driving many small trucking firms out of business. Aside from the AB5 regulations that ended the “gig economy” and threw out freelance truckers, the high expense and long lead time is making it harder to get containers off the docks and to their destinations. Empty store shelves? This is a cause.
The Biden administration sold off our Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and now refuses to fill it up again. Any disruption in the energy supply is now guaranteed to shut down all forms of transportation, as refined products become scarce. It turns out that the skyrocketing oil prices caused by the Left’s war on “fossil fuels” are making it “too expensive” to refill the reserve. By design? Probably.
The latest ban by the Biden Nanny State? Menthol cigarettes. Now that the FDA has been granted authority over tobacco, they have already banned many forms of it, including flavored vape fluid and delivery systems, and the new ban on menthol cigarettes is fueling dueling lawsuits! From both sides! Anti-smoking groups sued the government to institute the ban right now, and civil-rights groups sued to stop it, saying it will discriminate against blacks! [I actually love the Left eating the Left] Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up!
So what does all this tell you? It tells you that your elected representatives have little effect for all the money the direct in DC, and that the Administrative State, run almost solely by Leftists, Rules Over You. And just today, the Administrative State has issued rules making it more difficult for a president to fire government employees. Gee, do you think that they are afraid that when President Donald Trump is re-elected in November, he will really drain the Swamp? I certainly hope so!
