A new study from the Heritage Foundation has quantified what we all knew to be true.

As Andrew Mark Miller reported:

"It is true that red states have higher homicide rates than blue states, but the problem with this is that crime is a hyper-localized phenomenon," the Heritage Foundation’s Kevin Dayaratna told Fox News Digital. "It doesn't make sense to talk about at the state level. It makes sense to talk about at the local level because that's where the prosecutions occur. The local level crime is handled at the local level by local police, so when you look at this question on a local basis, namely the county level, you'll see that the trend is reversed."

"If you look at the analysis on a state-by-state level, it's 34% higher in red states and blue states, according to the most recent data we analyzed, but then when you look at it as a county-by-county level, it is 60% higher in blue counties than red counties."

Dayaratna said that between 2002 and 2008, there was an 88% higher rate of homicide in blue counties than red counties and between 2014 and 2022 there was a 62% increase.

Crime is a highly localized issue becausedistrict attorneys wield an enormous amount of power over what kind of crimes are prosecuted, and what the penalties are. It’s for this reason that leftist actors such as
George Soros have shelled out tens of millions to elect nearly 80 far-left DAs nationwide, as it enables him to weaken law and order in America without having to get through a city council, governor, or state legislature.

Among the policies favored by those so-called “progressive prosecutors” includes the abolition of cash bail, favoring pretrial diversion programs over punishment, non-enforcement of any drug laws, and refusing to prosecute the majority of crimes referred to them.

In some cities, such as San Francisco, shoplifting has effectively been legalized by non-enforcement, and the lack of consequences makes that particular crime data unreliable since there’s little benefit to retailers in reporting crime. While it’s impossible to know how much thefts are being underreported in places like San Francisco, it’s likely thousands of percent higher than reported. Consider the following; in September of 2021
a single Target store tested out a new reporting system that helped them report more shoplifting incidents to police - and that alone doubled the city’s shoplifting stats for the month.
