Biden’s bull about GOP being ‘against everything’ explains why he’s such a failure

In the latest sign of why he’s been such a crashing failure, President Joe Biden just fell back on a comfortable lie as he tried to rally Democrats who face huge losses in next year’s elections.

In his keynote speech at the Democratic National Committee’s lavish holiday party Tuesday, the prez sneered: “We know what we’re for. But Republicans don’t seem to be for anything. Name me something they are for — they’re against everything.”

In fact, Republicans just let Democrats boost the federal debt limit without even forcing the party that controls Congress to face some embarrassing roll-call votes. And they helped pass the infrastructure bill, Biden’s only victory in months.

Yes, they’ve opposed Biden’s drives to federalize elections, further goose inflation by spending billions of dollars on progressive entitlements and ram through Green New Deal remaking of the US economy. And they’ve fought against peddling identity politics and COVID hysteria.

But that’s what a principled opposition does. (And, by the way, it’s two Democrats, Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, who’ve blocked his insane Build Back Better spending spree.)

Look: The nation was poised for a rapid recovery as Biden took office, with vaccines already rolling out. All the new president had to do was deliver on his vow to make beating COVID his overriding priority.

But he put that fight on autopilot. The result: Soon after his DNC remarks, the nation passed 800,000 deaths from the virus, the most of any nation — with more than half of them on his watch, despite the vaccines developed at warp speed under his predecessor.

Instead of focusing on COVID, Biden devoted all his energies to using the pandemic as the pretext for a vast spending spree.

He pushed through a huge “COVID relief” law that discouraged work and dumped cash on Democratic priorities, then turned to Build Back — a $6 trillion-plus effort to enact the AOC-Bernie Sanders agenda of turning America socialist.

Among the things Republicans believe in is that often the best thing the government can do is get out of the way: empower people to decide and work for what’s best for themselves.

That Biden doesn’t understand or even recognize that idea has a lot to do with the nation’s current woes, including inflation unknown since the 1970s.

It’s also why his party is looking at a ginormous shellacking come November.
