On Sunday, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee prayed on national television, asking God to let House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) continue to represent the Democratic Party going into the 2018 midterm elections.
"Please, God, let Nancy Pelosi continue to be the voice of the Democratic Party, because it's the best thing the Republicans could have," Huckabee said on "Fox and Friends." The former Arkansas governor noted that Pelosi continues to downplay the economic success from President Donald Trump's tax cuts last year by referring to them as "crumbs."
The television segment opened with a quote from Pelosi going even further. "This is armageddon, in terms of the bonus that corporate America received versus the crumbs that they are giving to workers to kind of put the schmooze on is so pathetic," the Democrat leader said. "This is like giving you a bowl of doggie doo, put a cherry on top, and call it a chocolate sundae."
Huckabee suggested that Pelosi was her party's own worst enemy, and Republicans would do well to merely repeat her words in running against Democrats in November.
"All we need to do is take her words, put it on television, and play it over and over again, because all those families out there in America who are getting bonuses and pay raises, who have jobs that were unemployed, they're going to say, 'What la la land does Nancy live in that she doesn't understand that these unemployment numbers — which are historic — are incredibly good for a lot of people, and especially for minorities,'" Huckabee said.
The former governor suggested that "if Nancy Pelosi was given a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, she would say it was too heavy to pick it up and it might give her a hernia reaching over to grab it."
Huckabee argued that Democrats have lost their credibility because they refuse to acknowledge the positive economic numbers.
"They say they're for certain things — for example, they want to increase minority employment — but when it happens, they're unhappy with it," the governor said. "They want to move the embassy to Jerusalem until Donald Trump does it. Then they think he shouldn’t have. They want to have peace on the Korean peninsula until we get close to it and then they don’t like the way it’s being delivered."
Huckabee argued that "anything the president has done positively ... they'll find a way to somehow dislike it."
Last July, Pelosi said questions about her leadership of the Democratic Party were "unimportant." Even so, when Karen Handel beat Democrat golden boy Jon Ossoff in the Georgia 6th special election, ads tying Ossoff to Pelosi likely had a large impact in deciding that race.
Even as Pelosi raised a large money for the Democratic National Committee (DNC), liberal candidates have disavowed the minority leader. The Democrat advantage for the 2018 elections has shrunk in recent months, and ads tying Democrats to Pelosi have popped up in races for seats outside the House of Representatives.
For her part, Pelosi seems stuck in the past. She has attempted to resurrect the successful Democrat slogan from 2006, running against Republican "corruption, cronyism, and incompetence," which fit that year much better than 2018.
