What All This Carson Noise Is Really About

What All This Carson Noise Is Really About

 by John Schroeder

What’s it about? Silliness – just silliness.
“Stabbing” – exaggeration + “Pyramids” – Off the cuff stupidity (who hasn’t?) + “West Point” – semantics and imprecision of very old memories.
None of that puts Carson in a particularly good light, but come on, it is all basically common to the human condition. And it just seems so silly. There were some very serious stories in January and March that really make me worry about Dr. Carson’s suitability for the office, but these just make him human. And yet those earlier stories, both in the conservative journalism realm, got almost no traction, and this silliness is moving with the speed of Twitter.
The earlier stories are complex. They require some telling and explaining to understand; you cannot wrap them up and hang a label on Carson over them. The earlier stories cannot possibly be fully communicated in a tweet. I think the average GOP primary voter is smart enough, and cares enough, to read those older stories and put in the effort to understand them. That is why they were carried in conservative press. But I sincerely wonder if the MSM has the energy and commitment to do so.
What is even more troubling to me is that at least some of these silly stories are probably the result of oppo research by one of the other campaigns, not real journalistic effort by the organs originating the stories. That’s par for the course in situations like this. I am just hoping it is preemptive Democrat oppo work. I would hate to think that one of Carson’s GOP opponents thinks this stuff is the stuff to use when they have red meat like the older stories. I would hope our candidates think better of us.
But what I really know is this – if those of us that are just normal Joe’s and Josefine’s decide to make the silly stories the talk of all our Friday night social engagements and weekend beers then we are going to get fed a lot more of it. I’d like to think we are better than that.
