Dear GOP — Let President Trump Lead the Way to Midterms Victory

Dear GOP — Let President Trump Lead the Way to Midterms Victory

Top O' the Briefing

Happy Thursday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. Godlebrunz will be serving suspect crumb cake to semi-employed performance artists in the meditation tent.

This is something I've written about a few times and will continue to write about until the midterms are over. I don't have a crystal ball that lets me see how things are going to go in November. Conventional wisdom and election history tell us that it shouldn't be good for the Republicans. Conventional wisdom hasn't been around much for recent elections, however. Even though the Republicans were supposed to win the House back in 2022, the margin of victory was, as we are painfully aware, much lower than expected.

In other words, almost anything goes now.

Republicans have plenty of time to make a good run at midterms success. In my latest column, I explore the profoundly disturbing state of mental unwellness in the Democratic Party. They're still clinging to hating President Trump as a political strategy. Opportunities abound for the GOP.

Almost every day brings another story about an illegal alien who could have been deported multiple times, committing a violent crime. The Trump 47 administration has been brilliant at closing the border and deporting a lot of the worst of the illegals, but soft-on-crime judges and prosecutors are still slowing down the process.

I've been a big advocate for Republican candidates having a relentless focus on law and order as their primary issue this year. The differences between the GOP and the Democrats on the issue are numerous and easy to point out, which is something that President Donald Trump does very well.

This is from Catherine:

President Donald Trump is sick and tired of waiting for Senate Republicans to grow spines and for Democrats to quit denying Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employees checks in order to demand protections for illegal aliens. So Trump and congressional Republicans are working on an alternate method of funding DHS.

In his usual grandiloquent style, Trump declared, "Republicans fully support our Great Men and Women of Law Enforcement, maybe the word should be, LOVE! America thanks each and every one of our wonderful Police, Border Patrol, ICE, and others, for their work to protect our Cities, Towns, Streets and, indeed, our Country itself." In contrast, the president went on, "Democrats want to DEFUND the Police, Border Patrol, and all Immigration Enforcement. They want to allow Criminals, the Mentally Insane, and Lunatics from all over the World to come into our Country, totally unvetted and unchecked, putting Americans in serious danger."

As Catherine goes on to note later in the post, immigration enforcement was a huge and winning issue for President Trump in 2024. It's actually been a winning issue for him since he first announced he was running for president in 2015.

Everybody wants to feel safe. Pro-criminal prosecutors were run out of office in San Francisco and Los Angeles. They may not be voting Republican in either place yet, but if they're feeling it, you know swing voters are too.

President Trump has spent a decade trying to teach Republicans not only how to win, but how to want to win. That last part is important. Before Trump entered politics for the 2016 presidential race, I frequently told people that I was tired of wanting the Republicans to win more than the Republicans wanted to win.

Trump's had a lot of success changing the GOP mindset, but there's still some work to do. The good news is that his endorsement and campaign help will be coveted by candidates this year. He'll have plenty of opportunities to rub off on them.

More importantly, Trump has been showing them how to win. It's a simple story they can tell on the campaign trail: Democrats want to keep murderers and rapists on the streets to imperil your families, and Republicans want to remove the threat. If the threat is in the country illegally, we want to send them home.

Lather, rinse, repeat, win an election or two.

Just follow the example of the man who has been bucking electoral trends for a decade.
