To this day, former star CBS anchor Dan Rather stubbornly refuses to admit fault over his flawed 2004 report alleging that then-President George W. Bush received special treatment from the military to avoid serving in Vietnam.
The only problem: the documents the august anchor based his report on were unverified, and their authenticity could not be confirmed (that’s a nice way of saying they were pretty much thoroughly debunked). Rather’s illustrious career pretty much came to an end at that point—as it should have—and it was a major wake-up call to the American public about just how biased our media had become.
He set out to destroy a president he didn’t like, and he didn’t care whether the facts backed him up or not.
We find ourselves in a similar situation now, as CBS News and their once-gloried flagship “60 Minutes” show were caught in an editing deception so craven, so obvious, and so devoid of journalistic integrity that even veteran watchdogs were stunned. They basically took one terrible answer by then-Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris and replaced it with another in order to make her look better—and influence the election.
The side-by-side is frankly stunning:
Distorting the Truth: CBS Has to Turn Over '60 Minutes' Kamala Interview to FCC, Then It Gets Worse for Them
BREAKING: Trump Sues CBS News for Gigantic Sum Over '60 Minutes' Fiasco
Now, as we’ve reported, Trump has sued the network for $10 billion cool ones, and the FCC has demanded that they turn over the tapes and transcripts. Incredibly, veteran producer Bill Owens is doubling down and refusing to admit that his team shamelessly tried to gaslight the American voter:
The executive producer of "60 Minutes" remains defiant and CBS News' parent company mulls settling a lawsuit waged by President Donald Trump.
Bill Owens, who has led the long-running program since 2019, took a tough stance against Trump during a Monday staff meeting, according to The New York Times.
"There have been reports in the media about a settlement and/or apology," Owens reportedly said. "The company knows I will not apologize for anything we have done." [Note to Mr. Owens, the network may know you will not apologize, but that doesn't mean you won't be looking for a new job in the very near future.]
CBS News is approaching a deadline set by Trump's Federal Communication Commission chairman Brendan Carr to hand over the transcript of the Kamala Harris "60 Minutes" interview at the center of the controversy.
"The edit is perfectly fine; let’s put that to bed so we can get on with our lives," Owens said regarding the transcript, per the Times.
The edit is not “perfectly fine”—it’s one of the most blatant media manipulations I’ve ever seen. They showed you something that wasn’t the truth, and yet they insisted it was. That is called lying where I come from.
Trump's lawsuit summed it up pretty nicely:
"To paper over Kamala’s ‘word salad’ weakness, CBS used its national platform on 60 Minutes to cross the line from the exercise of judgment in reporting to deceitful, deceptive manipulation of news," the lawsuit stated.
Bill Owens’ declaration that the obvious attempt at misinformation was “just fine” exquisitely illustrates just how depraved and dishonest the Corrupt Legacy/Corporate/Mainstream—whichever word you choose—media has become in their obeisance to the leftist cause. Truth does not matter to them anymore, only the outcome.
We’re onto them, as the November election proved without a doubt. Bill Owens now gets a plaque next to Dan Rather’s in the Shameless Journalist Hall of Fame.
