Does Joe Biden Have ‘No Chance’ in 2024?

When there’s a bad poll for Joe Biden — and believe me, there have been a lot lately — I’ll be the first to point it out and tell you that things look terrible for him in next year’s election. When young voters and non-white voters are abandoning him, I can’t even imagine that Biden’s most loyal boosters could find a way to spin that news positively. When battleground state polls overwhelmingly benefit Trump over Biden, how exactly do you find a silver lining in that if you’re a Democrat?

Yes, Joe Biden is in serious trouble, and a recent CNN poll really punctuates just how dire the situation is for him. According to the poll, a majority of voters signaled they won’t support President Joe Biden in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Ouch.

It’s become cliché to say that Democrats should be hitting the panic button — and frankly, we’re way passed that. The warning signs have been there for, frankly, a couple of years that Joe Biden was not the candidate that would deliver Democrats victory in 2024. Heck, the mainstream was speculating who might replace him as the Democrats’ nominee mere months after he took office. Concerns over his age and cognitive health were always a factor, but now his record is the big fat negative on his pitch for another four years.

According to the poll, 51% of voters said there’s “no chance” they vote for Joe Biden, only 45% of voters identified themselves as Biden voters, and a mere 4% called themselves "potential” Biden voters. Not only does Biden suffer from a significant gap in enthusiasm, based on this poll, a mere few voters say they can be swayed to support him.

Voter attitudes toward Biden stand in stark contrast to that of Donald Trump. According to the poll, voters were much more favorable to the former president. Considering how much Donald Trump is vilified in the media, that’s a quite a finding. In fact, the poll shows that Biden's favorability ratings are trending downward, while Trump’s are trending upward. While it’s true that polls have shown that Americans aren’t really interested in a Biden/Trump rematch, it’s clear that, should that actually happen, with about a year to go before the election, Trump has the advantage.

But, does all this really mean that Biden has “no chance” in 2024? Of course not. Despite everything we’ve seen in the polls, if there’s anything recent elections have shown us, is that we should never underestimate how badly Democrats want to win. They’ve mastered early voting and Republicans have only just started to accept that if they want to be competitive in elections, they have to play by the same rules and bank early votes to free up resources on Election Day to get out the vote.

With a year before the election, things are looking really good, but the worst thing you could do is get cocky about it. We’re still going to have to fight like hell to win.
