Dear Nancy –
You don’t mind if I call you by your first name, do you? I mean, you spend so much time pretending to care about us common folk and about the government workers who aren’t working and those who are currently working for IOUs during this shutdown, that I figured you’d be OK if I got a little familiar with you. So, let’s sit down and have a conversation, Nancy, OK?
Donald Trump, in an effort to end the government shutdown, decided to make a major concession to you and your fellow Democrats today. As my co-blogger Deanna wrote earlier, Trump announced he was willing to grant a three-year extension for both DACA recipients and TPS designations to allow you and your fellow Congress members to pass legislation (also known as DO YOUR JOBS) to protect kids who have been brought here illegally by their parents through no fault of their own and US residents from certain countries who warrant temporary protected status.
All he wants in exchange is for you and your fellow Democrats to fund a wall/barrier/fence/bucket full of toenails/peaches/whatever you want to call it, along with other common sense measures to secure our southwestern border.
The president says Mitch McConnell is ready to bring this legislation to the Senate floor for a vote if you just say the word.
But you flat out rejected the offer. You rejected it before it was even made. You dismissed it out of hand while superciliously pontificating how you had hoped the President would “proceed with a much-needed discussion to protect the border.”
Well, he tried, Nance, and you failed to accept the invite.

And you issued this pathetic excuse in advance of the President’s address, proving once again that your concern isn’t about paying the hundreds of thousands of government workers forced to work for no salary, that you couldn’t give a fat rat’s hairy ass about protecting kids who were brought here illegally by their parents, and you certainly don’t want to compromise. You proved once again that you don’t care about border security or anything other than rejecting the Trump agenda and ensuring he fails. That’s your promise to your fellow unhinged lunatic Democrats (but I repeat myself), and that’s exactly what you’re doing.
You and your fellow Democrats worked really hard to make this shutdown about Trump. You tried to make it about Republicans. You’ve made #TrumpShutdown trend on Twitter. Occasional Cortex is running around Washington with her fellow squealing proglodytes, claiming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is refusing to open the government, as if it’s somehow the Senate Majority Leader’s responsibility to compromise, especially after the House Speaker refused to even hear the President’s offer before giving him the finger.
You people have been littering Twitter with your false claims about teary government workers telling you to hang in there and not capitulate, pretending they are willing to sacrifice for your ridiculous quest to block any and all attempts to secure the border.
I just had a furloughed worker come visit me in my office.
“I work for HUD,” he said. “My family is hurting now that I’m three weeks without a paycheck,”
“but please - please don’t give into a wall. I don’t want the political tool of withholding my paycheck to be legitimized.”

This little gem was posted eight days after government workers received their last paycheck – right at the end of December. No one had missed a paycheck at that point, but that doesn’t matter to you prevaricating scum, as long as it supports your political agenda and allows you to pretend that people whom you use as policy tools somehow support this insanity, while claiming they don’t want to be used as political tools.
Do you even comprehend how ridiculous you look?
Well, Nance, after today’s outright rejection of the President’s attempt to extend an olive branch and finally end the shutdown, this shutdown is on you.
It’s on you and on your fellow Democrats.
I will admit I was a bit pissed off at both sides after the infamous meeting during which you refused to budge, and the President walked out. I was angry at your intransigence and at Trump’s narcissistic “you won’t give me what I want” comment, as if this deal is about HIM instead of the hundreds of thousands of people working for free, while you and your fellow Congress scum get a paycheck for refusing to do your jobs.
But now, I realize it is PRECISELY about him.
It’s not about border security.
It’s not about DACA recipients or TPS residents.
This isn’t about immigrants, or children, or families at the border.
It certainly isn’t about the people whom you are forcing to work without a paycheck, while you and your pals get paid with Americans’ tax dollars, even as you refuse to do your jobs and fund the government that we fund and that is supposed to provide certain services in return.
(I note that despite being one of the wealthier members of Congress, your name is not on the list of members who have given up or donated their salaries during this shutdown.)
For you, it’s all about opposing Trump, and you’re willing to take nothing less, as your pal Dick Durbin (D-ouchebag, IL) demanded when he demanded that the President “put everything on the table.”
