THE BORDER CRISIS IS OBAMA’S HURRICANE KATRINA? DON’T BE RIDICULOUS!

Some (including some Democrats) are saying that the crisis on the Southwestern border is President Obama’s Hurricane Katrina. But there are at least two fundamental differences between the illegal immigration fiasco and Katrina. First, the response to Hurricane Katrina was actually the largest and the fastest response to any natural disaster in history, as Popular Mechanics, as I recall, later documented. Second, President Bush didn’t cause the hurricane.
The current disaster is entirely attributable to Barack Obama’s willful refusal to enforce the immigration laws, in violation of his oath of office. Is Obama’s subversion of the nation’s laws an impeachable offense? I don’t think there is any doubt about it. The debate is, rather, over whether impeaching Obama (or even talking about doing so) would be politically disadvantageous for Republicans. Personally, I am about ready to forgo political advantage and advocate getting rid of the Scofflaw-In-Chief.
Because of Obama’s malfeasance, tens of thousands of illegals–maybe hundreds of thousands by now–have crossed the border in recent weeks and have been welcomed with open arms and spirited off to various locations around the U.S. They are told to attend deportation hearings, but virtually none of them will. They may be illegal, but they aren’t stupid. Essentially all of them are here for good, and their offspring will be citizens.
Where, exactly, will they live? A reader has some suggestions:
Where will they put the “children”? Whose neighborhoods? Any eminent domain involved? I actually have some suggestions. I’d start with Hyannisport, Mass., of course…plus right next door to Nancy and Paul Pelosi’s mansions and estates. And, say, doesn’t John McCain have 7 houses? How much extra space does John Kerry have?…..and where do the Sulzbergers live? Let’s put the “children” right there…lots of them…hundreds of thousands.
That isn’t going to happen, any more than anti-gun zealots like Michael Bloomberg will start going about without armed guards–hypocrisy, your name is Democrat–but it is fun to imagine.
There are a number of mysteries surrounding the current invasion of illegals from Guatemala and Honduras. Mexico generally seals its southern border tightly, so why did these many thousands suddenly obtain free passage across Mexico to the U.S.? Could we send them on to Canada? If not, why not? And who, exactly, is training these individuals in American immigration law? (Heck, they may know it better than our president.) At The Blaze, Sara Carter reports from the border. “Cheat sheets” like this one are commonly found on those who cross illegally into the U.S.:
AlienCheatSheet1-620x348
Someone–the “coyotes”?–teaches the illegals how to answer the questions they will be asked once they reach their destination:
The sheet obtained by TheBlaze has handwritten notes about the appropriate “yes” or “no” answers to the questions, along with some jotted personal notes on what to say to U.S. authorities. They include, “Who did you live with?” and the answer, “My aunt, but she crossed the border.” …
Among the printed statements in Spanish on the sheet are:
• Why did you abandon your country?
• Because of poverty and misery.
• You’re in fear of your government and afraid to live in your country.
• You’re afraid of extortion from Maras [MS-13 gang].
• Do you have family in the United States?
• Is this the first time you’ve come into this country?
• Did you swim across the river?
• Somebody told you that if you brought a minor child into the United States you can stay.
Actually, these folks probably are taking unnecessary precautions. Given that the Obama administration has dictated that the immigration laws be ignored, they don’t really need to have a story. They just need to show up.
