Syrian Scuds and what the New York Times forgot [Michael Rubin/NRO]
So, according to the New York Times, Syria has transferred Scud missiles to Hezbollah — missiles capable of hitting Tel Aviv. Two points the article avoided:
Where was the U.N.? Isn’t UNIFIL supposed to prevent the rearming of Hezbollah? Wasn’t this the great diplomatic victory the Europeans (and, unfortunately, the Bush administration) won to end the 2006 Hezbollah–Israel war? How much money have we and the Europeans spent on UNIFIL? What has the U.N. actually accomplished?
Why exactly is the Obama administration sending an ambassador to Syria? To reward it for its attempt to run a covert nuclear facility? Or to reward its efforts to put increasingly sophisticated missiles in the arsenal of terrorists? Does the Obama administration have any metric by which to judge its initiatives?
