The Australian Police Reportedly 'Froze' During Bondi Terror Attack

Scott covered this horrific terror attack over the weekend: two gunmen targeted Jewish attendees of a Hanukkah ceremony at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. It was an antisemitic terrorist attack. Fifteen people were killed, with another 40 wounded:

Two men who killed 16 people and injured 40 other people at a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, have been identified by Australian social media.
Social media has identified the suspected shooters as Khaled Al-Nablusi from Sidon and the other, Naveed Akram from Pakistan.

And now we have reports that responding officers “froze” (via NY Post):

One of the survivors of the terror attack at a Bondi Beach Hanukkah celebration said four police officers just “froze” during the 20-minute rampage on Sunday that killed 11.
Eyewitness Shmulik Scuri said he was with his family when the two suspects began firing at the crowd of worshippers from a nearby bridge.
“For 20 minutes. They shoot, shoot. Change magazines. And just shoot,” the witness told reporters.
“Twenty minutes, there was four policemen there. Nobody give fire back. Nothing. Like they froze,” he said of the slow response. “I don’t understand why.”.”

It wasn’t until a local good Samaritan, a local fruit seller, disarmed one of the terrorists that police appeared to return fire, taking out one of the shooters, video shows.

Oh, and would it also shock you that this Naveed Akram guy was already on the radar of Australian intelligence for having terror ties:

One of the terror suspects in the Bondi Beach Hanukkah massacre is believed to have studied religion at an Islamic center in Australia that has ties to other Muslim-run organizations in the country.
Naveed Akram, 24, who allegedly opened fire with his father on thousands of Jews celebrating Hanukkah Sunday night, was tagged in a February 2022 social media post praising him for mastering “all the rules of tajweed” — the recitation of laws of the Quran — at the Al-Murad Institute outside Sydney.

The suspected gunman was previously investigated in 2019 for possible terror ties by the Australian Security Intelligence Organization (ASIO) — the country’s version of the FBI, the ABC reported.

As the fight over Obamacare raged in 2009, Sarah Palin coined a phrase that would draw years of ridicule from the Left. Palin warned that government-run healthcare would empower bureaucratic "death panels" to decide who received treatment and who was left to die.

Leftist media outlets like The Economist dismissed Palin's claim as an "outrageous allegation," while Democratic mouthpiece Jon Meacham said it was "a lie crafted to foment opposition" to Obamacare.

Yet time has a way of vindicating those scorned. Dark developments across the Western world show Palin was simply early, not wrong, when it came to governments wielding their power over healthcare to cull their citizenry.

For one example, consider Canada and the insidious concept of MAID. The phrase is an acronym: Medical Assistance in Dying. MAID was initially sold in 2016 as a way for those terminally ill or in excruciating pain to leave the mortal coil on their own terms.

Inevitably, MAID became a convenient way for the Canadian government to start culling citizens.

Late last month, Canada's national broadcaster reported on a Saskatchewan woman considering MAID because she could not access surgery for a rare and painful thyroid condition. Jolene Van Alstine's ordeal through Canada's health bureaucracy rivals the pain of her disease. No surgeon in her province performs the needed procedure, and no endocrinologist is available to provide a referral for out-of-province care.

While accessing treatment proved impossible, accessing MAID was frighteningly simple. Van Alstine was approved for assisted death within a few weeks of applying.

A slight glimmer of hope to this story, conservative commentator Glenn Beck has vowed he will pay for Van Alstine to come to America and receive the surgery if there's a doctor to perform it. But not all Canadians are so lucky, and the state is hellbent on getting rid of them.

Canadian citizen Roger Foley suffers from a degenerative brain disorder requiring frequent hospital care. During his visits, staff repeatedly raised MAID with him without provocation. Unnerved, Foley began recording his conversations with hospital staff, including one in which the director of ethics emphasized that his care exceeded $1,500 per day.

When Foley asked about alternatives, he was told the purpose of the conversation was not to find solutions, but to gauge his interest in killing himself.

Disturbing as that is, Canada seems like child's play compared to Western Europe.

Germany's drug commissioner, Hendrik Streeck, recently stated on national television that elderly patients should be denied certain life-saving drugs due to cost. He argued there are "phases in life" when such medications should no longer be used.

This is, by Palin's definition, a government death panel. It is the state deciding that some citizens are more valuable than others, and those deemed unworthy should be denied care. It is also the exact system the Left wants to bring here.

To be clear, America's healthcare system is deeply flawed as well. Under Obamacare, premiums have soared while consumer choice and access to care have sharply declined. But the solution is not allowing government into the hospital room.

Americans benefit from a system that keeps the state at arm's length from their medical care. Were we to invite bureaucrats in, Canada and Germany's morbid and murderous view of healthcare would follow. Instead, Americans must seek to reform the current healthcare system, not wholesale discard it in favor of leftist-approved socialized medicine.

Given the choice between a death panel and private-sector inefficiency, I'll choose inefficiency every time. Oh, and take my advice. Try not to get injured in Canada. They say the healthcare up there can be murder.

Like clockwork, there's a horrific shooting and just hours later, Democrats are front and center to exploit the situation to once again blame the guns and and push for more gun control.

Because, as we all know, criminals and terrorists totally obey gun laws.

See what we mean? We're not even sure who the gunman is (although we know he yelled 'something' when he started shooting), and Liz is on X babbling about gun violence.

What will she do when she figures out this was terrorism? Continue blaming the guns?

One of the biggest whoppers Democrats told during the Schumer Shutdown was that they were not fighting for taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegals as part of the demands they wanted to be met to end the shutdown.

"Federal law prohibits the use of Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and the Affordable Care Act to provide health insurance in any way, shape, or form to undocumented immigrants—period, full stop. Democrats aren’t trying to change that," Democrat House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) proclaimed at the time.

Though that is exactly what Jeffries and his fellow Democrats were trying to do, it was clear that the subject of taxpayer funding of illegal immigrant healthcare was a sore spot and for good reason, considering the likelihood that Jeffries knew the longer the shutdown dragged out, the more frustrated the American people would get with Democrats holding up funding for the military and SNAP recipients just to get some assurances on healthcare for illegals.

Fast forward to December, however, and we have California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) admitting he was proud that his state was the first in the nation to funnel billions in taxpayer dollars to illegal immigrant healthcare:

It was revealed back in March how the Golden State was exploiting a loophole in Medicaid to help fund their healthcare for illegals Medi-Cal scheme (note: Medi-Cal, which is the state's Medicaid program and which is open to legal California residents as well, is paid for by a mixture of state and federal funds):

California is funneling billions of federal taxpayer dollars into paying for illegal immigrants’ healthcare, a new study claims.
"They are exploiting an existing loophole within law," Paul Winfree, president and CEO of the Economic Policy Innovation Center (EPIC), told Fox News Digital.
"States can do these provider taxes to funnel money back to the state, that they are then using to pay for, to put illegal immigrants on Medicaid. That’s quite literally what’s going on."

An HHS Inspector General Report from May 2024 found that "California Improperly Claimed $52.7 Million in Federal Medicaid Reimbursement for Capitation Payments Made on Behalf of Noncitizens With Unsatisfactory Immigration Status."

The money was allegedly paid back to the feds the next month.

One thing that undoubtedly will come out of Newsom saying the quiet part out loud after Congressional Democrats repeatedly lied about their desire to fund healthcare for illegal immigrants is that this statement is going to be used in GOP ads during the 2026 midterms and the 2028 presidential election campaign season, where Newsom presumably will be a candidate himself:
